My point was - they showed the TOS era 1701 from the 1966-69 series ON ST: D so yeah, it existed in that Universe.![]()
Except CBS has mandated that we can't actually trust what our eyes show us.

Indeed. I have moved past the opinion that Star Trek is literal historical recreation of what happened and more an interpretation of the events that happened in universe. The characters and the events are more important than the technology and set pieces.I've always seen it like this: the various Star Trek series are a kind of docudrama, each shot with the technology and style of the era in which they are produced. Because this there are differences that sometimes seem irreconcilable.
Same shit different coat of paint.Except CBS has mandated that we can't actually trust what our eyes show us.

No different than recasting a character.
It's been a few years since The Cage, Boyce could have retired or moved on.I presume Dr Phillip Boyce would have to be a regular character on this series,
Boyce was name checked in a graphic appearing in STIDthem movies were dogshit so it dont matter in them.
I am more hopeful the series are more in tune,
There's no reason to presume that at all.I presume Dr Phillip Boyce would have to be a regular character on this series,
Not using Boyce is a missed opportunity. I mean nobody cares about Piper. He was just a boring version of Boyce but Boyce is key to one of the best scenes in The Cage. Plus they will need to explain why M'Benga is CMO and why he would eventually loose the job to Piper then come back later to work under Bones.
According to The Cage's script, the character was supposed to be 51, though the actor was 59.Boyce was already pretty goddamned old in The Cage. It would make total sense if he had since retired.
Old was different in the 60’sIf there's any truth to the character descriptions that leaked a few months back, they are looking for a black male in his mid-forties to play the doctor. So it's probably not Boyce.

I hope it is Boyce. It would keep the riffraff out.If there's any truth to the character descriptions that leaked a few months back, they are looking for a black male in his mid-forties to play the doctor. So it's probably not Boyce.
That's part of his appeal. We don't see many old people as regulars in trek and if they are their is because they are someone's mom or dad like Laxanna Troi or Sisko's dad. Actually seeing Picard as old is part of the appeal of that show. With this show I see Boyce as a potential great transitional character were Pike goes from Boyce being his best friend and confidant to Number 1 and Spock. Of course one could say that has already happened but why not show it. As much as I think Boyce should be in the show I also feel like he needs to die on the show as well. Maybe after 3 or 4 episodes or at the end of season 1. Something like that. Then you can have M'Benga take over. As temp CMO but doesn't keep job full time because at some point he leaves to study on Vulcan.Boyce was already pretty goddamned old in The Cage. It would make total sense if he had since retired.
I'm thinking SNW could use a good closing act/coda, with Pike and Boyce sharing a drink over the day's events, reflecting on decisions made, and what might have otherwise happened if things had gone differently. Make it a regular thing. I always enjoyed those moments at the end of Boston Legal episodes, between Crane and Shore. Gave it a very human quality that a lot of Trek has lacked in many ways. And, in this case, it would follow nicely with established Cage-Canon.I hope it is Boyce. It would keep the riffraff out.
Also, Chris Judge is 56. Just sayin.
