Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I'm guessing after the Pike Series, they'll do a Kirk Series. So whoever they cast as Kirk will potentially have a job he can always count on until about 2030. And Ethan Peck is looking at the possibility of two series back-to-back.

Possibly. It'll be interesting either way.

I've been a fan since 1991. Even back then, I heard "Kirk's a womanizer!" leveled against him. This isn't a recent thing.

I could opine two possibilities from that:

1. Kirk did go at it with guys but then later decided he preferred only women and not looking back... (never mind Spock and all that slashfic, who probably told him a "forget it" grip after his previous pon farr, why not)
2. In TOS Kirk still does but he was never asking about men... apart from "That Which Survives", though he might have been asking in case Losira already had a boyfriend before following up with her knowledge of love and what fun and happiness people can have together (e.g. "The Apple" of all stories, et al) - that could go either way, pardon the puns...

or 3, why not: He never was outside of third party unauthorized sources making slashfic and now it's being integrated since none of us wants to see Kirk hitch up with a hot dog toaster... it's actually a real thing:

But in all honesty, it's not too wild a shoehorned revelation despite seventy nine 50-minute mini-documentaries.

This angle is from Star Trek Into Darkness, but I do wonder how Kirk escaped repercussions for getting the daughter of the head of Section 31 pregnant and then leaving her on her own and not got himself "accidentally" beamed into space.

To start with, we have no idea what Admiral Marcus's status is in the Prime Universe, if he's even involved with Section 31 or even still alive by the time Kirk met Carol. But regardless, Kirk didn't leave Carol after getting her pregnant. She left him and told him not to get involved in David's life. Not really seeing why Kirk is facing repercussions for doing as she wished.

I don't remember who posted this video recently, but here it is anyway:
Kirk, a man's man :D

Even with that all being true, someone like Marcus probably wouldn't care. He wasn't exactly well balanced to begin with if his Kelvin Timeline version is any indication.

And being interested in aliens just on sight highly begs the question if he even cares what their genitals are. Which was already lampshaded way back in TUC ("Not everyone keeps their genitals in the same place, like me the girl you're hitting on who can also be a guy").
"That was not his knee." XD

ugh.. Just have a new LGBTQIA character.. if they introduce Sulu and want to keep him as gay, thats okay, but Kirk? the Pinical of masculinity? I know having a guy.. well.. being a guy isn't in style right now but come on!
All LGBT guys are being guys. Masculinity has nothing to do with any of that.

And I go back to the fact that we know nothing about Admiral Marcus in the Prime Universe, although we can probably surmise he and Carol spent more time together based on Prime Carol having an American accent. Since Kelvin Carol explained in a deleted scene her English accent was a result of growing up in London, presumably Prime Carol has an American accent because she grew up in America. Kelvin Carol was in London because Admiral Marcus was assigned to the Section 31 archive in London, but if that didn't happen in the Prime universe, it suggests the Admiral never got involved with Section 31. Perhaps he even retired from Starfleet before he even made Admiral, in which case even if he takes the irrational dad response to her daughter getting pregnant by a guy who is already out the door, what's he going to do about it? As a retired Captain or lower, he likely carries no influence at Starfleet command, or at least not enough to impact the career of an up and comer like Kirk.

I’ve seen reports that Jake Cannavale is being considered for Kirk and Harry Shum Jr. is being considered for Sulu. This was reported by “We Got This Covered” so it’s hard to say how accurate this news is, but they have provided some reliable intel in the past.

Because it amount to kirk abandoning his child. If Carol no longer want a relationship with Kirk this is her decision, but she shouldn't have total say in what kind of relationship (if any) Kirk has with his son. Kirk should have asseted himself.

As a separate matter, Carol never telling David, early in his life, who his father is is disturbing.
"We Got This Covered" makes up lies.
Remember when they claimed that John Harrison wasn't Khan?

Or was that someone else?

Honestly, the only thing that I am taking as a possibility at this point is the fact that Kirk is in the new series. Where it goes from there - who knows.

It actually makes sense if you realize that her dad in the Prime universe was also possibly Section 31 and thus she adapted her father's ruthlessness and viciousness. Unlike in the Kelvin Timeline, she may not have had a reason to turn against him in the Prime timeline.
