Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Could also get a nice nod to Nog. Quark can tell Picard to "Tell my no good nephew to use his influence as Captain of the Enterprise to help me deal with some legal issues involving transporting Voles into Vulcan space."

Jason
You mean first officer of the Enterprise. Worf is of course the captain.

I never grew up with Kirk/Pike/Spock (wrong age group!) but as I grew up with TNG and Voyager I always dabbled and caught up with original episodes, but they are not ‘my’ Star Trek. Other then Picard, I’d love to see a continuation of this 24th century era in a more traditional Star Trek show format. I’m not complaining though, we are getting lots of new Star Trek coming up and that’s only a good thing! I also understand how they want to keep the origins of Star Trek ‘current’ by modernising it for a future generation, making everyone familiar with names such as Kirk, Spock and Pike etc. I can’t wait for Strange New Worlds myself, it has a good ‘vibe’ to it from what I have heard so far!

I'd have McCoy as the doctor. Just go full 2009 Star Trek and have the TOS crew under Pike but with Number One there too.

I can't tell if this is snark or a serious comment, and I'm a little reluctant to say this in case if it was snark... but I actually do kind of hope Strange New Worlds is a little bit of a pseudo Star Trek 2009 TV show. The Strange New Worlds crew and Kelvin Timeline crews adventures occur roughly around the same time, so I think it's logical to assume there would be some parallels. I think you can fit Uhura, Sulu and McCoy in there. And maybe even Scotty. Mix it with Disco Pike, Spock and Number One, I think it's a nice dynamic.

It makes sense that the TOS crew was probably slowly phased in over time, and not brought on board at once when Kirk took command. So, sure, we could conceivably see a number of them pop up under Pike's tenure.

No snark, the 2009 film in my favourite Trek movie. If they can do a TV series version of that dynamic I'd be very happy.

Though it does have problems, ST09 represents the very best of what Star Trek could be. Or rather, while the melody isn't exactly perfect, it hits all the right notes.

SNW could learn a lot from it.

I had mixed feelings about it when it first came out, although I did like it for the most part. But over the last couple of years it has REALLY grown on me for some reason to where it's probably becoming my favorite. I seem to watch it maybe once every other month. I really can't explain why this is happening, but it is. There's still things about it that make me cringe, but still, it's really grown on me. The sequels too, although I always loved Beyond.

But I digress... I think if SNW could find a balance between the soul of the Kelvin Timeline films and the narrative of the Prime Timeline, it might have something.

It's very refreshing to finally have a Star Trek series that isn't named after the setting in which the series takes place. Trek has never excelled at coming up with compelling titles, but, this is at least better than naming it AFTER something.

Of course, Star Trek: Enterprise was already taken.

Picard was a setting?

Star Trek Vineyard anyone?

It'd be great to still see DSC characters in SNW who were left behind in the time jump. I'd become quite fond of Sarek, Amanda, Tyler, etc., and although I'm excited for season 3 of DSC, I was disappointed that we would be leaving behind those characters. So maybe SNW could work them in every so often.

With the merger of Paramount and CBS, it'd be interesting if they could work in movie info. Prime Krall would be great, although Idris Elba might be too expensive (or they could recast). Younger Sybok, and Admiral Marcus who'd probably be bent on punishing young Kirk for getting his daughter pregnant and running off.

Also, I'd love to see the TAS Rec Room (basically a holodeck) in the Enterprise.

Also, the inevitable collapse of the ceasefire between the Klingons and Fed.

There was nothing stopping them before. If there had, there'd be no Klingon language spoken on Disco, since that originated from the movies. Not to mention the stuff from the Abrams movies they ported over, like windshield viewscreens, Vulcan classrooms, the auditorium from Trek XI.

People just don't want to acknowledge Sybok exists.

With Aron and Rene both gone now and Avery probably unlikely willing to star in another Trek show, a live action series might be a stretch

Animated could happen, but not hearing their voices would still be jarring.

I would, however, very much like to be proven wrong.

Ah, but the show already has perfect setting/excuses for all of those character's not to be present. Odo hasn't returned home yet - he is still with the Founders. Sisco likewise is still with the Prophets. And just take the DS9 documentary's season 8 pilot storyline - where Captain Nog appears through the wormhole with an urgent warning just to have his ship explode. Can't think of a better way to go out then have Aron a captain on his own starship going down with the ship while bringing a saving warning/message to his friends and allies.

I don't know. I don't think I want Nog to be killed offscreen which would be the only way you could do it unless were talking CGI. It would be better to just say Nog is a Captain and off on a mission somewhere. I might be open to recasting Odo. I sort of like the idea that he comes back in the image of Jadza and you bring Terry Farrell back. He doesn't want to look like his old self because it would be to painful but he wanted to come back in the form of someone he missed and everyone else missed.
