STO as well tried to make it look a bit less cartoonish. Not as much as they did with the Vancouver tho.
Neat, is there turbolifts in the pylons? Or do you beam to the nacelles and secondary hull?

the design for the California class makes absolutely no sense.
It makes as much sense as an Oberth Class.

I am irrationally annoyed by this, and ships like it (the Grissom, the E-F and seemingly every STO design). The hole/gap in the middle makes absolutely no sense and I cannot imagine a single use case where it is beneficial. Maddening.
Ships in the future are as much about aesthetic preferences as functionality.
Eh? The Odyssey and its variants are the only STO unique Starfleet designs that have a split neck.
Not counting the Grissom since that's a variant of the Oberth, not a whole new STO design.
