Starfleet hand to hand combat.

Ah, those. :p

Definitely anti-kinetic capabilities there: the drones and their tags would have been representative of both the blunt-instrument threat and the bullet/shrapnel threat. If that could be made mobile, I see no reason why it shouldn't.

OTOH, luckily for continuity, it is immobile. And so, come to think of it, was Worf's commbadge shield. Maybe there's more to mobile forcefields than the inconvenience of bumping into things? Maybe pushing a forcefield through mere air is really impractical already? Unless it's skintight, and even then the constant glow of the TAS fields may be due to impacts with air...

I'm sure they have some kind of armors to protect them from any projectile weapons and plus in a hand to hand combat they can easily defeat any aliens since the enhanced Borg physiology give them lightning fast reflexes and hand eye coordination.
:guffaw:
Oh wait... was that meant to be serious?

I think, if he's not kidding, that the Borg drones are stronger than at least humans. They have enhanced hand eye coordination, or rather, they have enhanced perception of spatial relationship; and Seven showed that once freed of the Borg implants she can play racquet ball like a pro, after learning the rules. She was also able to see the winning move in the Vulcan game of Kal-toh.

Stronger than humans, sure. But I cannot recall the last time we have seen Borg drones do anything but march around zombielike and push people over tables. So "lightning fast reflexes" I doubt.:borg:

That, plus Picard's little trigger-happy incident with a holographic tommy gun, lead me to LOL.

That's why I used Seven as an example. Typical Borg drones are technological zombies. I wonder what would happen if the Borg assimilate a race that uses implants similar to the Borg, but are light weight, just as strong as current Borg implants, and allow the Drone full freedom of movement. Will that be the end of our civilization? Turn the page.

"Hello class, I am Instructor Tuvok. I will be teaching you how to kill or disable over 200 different species of intelligent humanoids, including all major and minor enemies of the Federation. If you want to learn how to do unarmed combat against other beings such as Hortas or Founders and other non-carbon based non-humanoids you will need to sign up for Commander Kebron's class. We will begin with pressure points and vulnerable points on Romulans, Klingons, Jem'Hadar and Borg Drones."

Tuvok: "Class, today begins week 3 of disabling or killing Talaxians. Everybody prepare to face off against your Holo-Neelix."

The US Army was still running bayonet training when I went through training in 2006, and the Bayonet Assault Course was probably the single most physically demanding training event of my 16 weeks at Ft. Knox. There was something visceral and primal about stabbing those dummies and charging up hills with a couple inches of cold steel at the tip of my rifle.

But then I did my 15 months in Iraq(Going outside the wire daily mind you) and we were never even issued bayonets, nor did I see any other unit with bayonets, either American or Iraqi.

Many of us did strap combat knifes(bowie knifes larger than bayonets usually) onto our body armor, and a few nuts(looking at you LT) wore machetes with the handle sticking up over one shoulder. We were told to stop wearing blades on patrol due to it scaring the local civilian population, sad day.

Frankly I think carrying combat blades in an age of guns(or ray guns) is silly. It is extra weight you don't need. Modern military firearms and presumably phasers are reliable enough not to need a back-up. Especially if you're already carrying a pistol in addition to your rifle.

I thought the whole purpose of carrying a blade is its usefulness...like if the marine are stranded, the blade could come in handy for killing animals for food and chopping down trees and branches for building fire and shelters. Plus you could kill the a single or a couple enemies without sounding the alarms.

You know that's what they used to do in with Thai soldiers... They would build up their endurance my making them jog every morning and focusing on building muscles. Sometimes they had to march 2 days straight...and the heat and humdity of the jungle can really take a toll on you, especially someone who is not use to it. All this was developed because Thailand was a prime target for a lot of countries who was looking to defeat it and take all the gold. this was especially true for the Burmese, who love attacking Ayutthaya, not only for the amount of gold it had, but also its renowned fighters. Today, Thailand is the only coutry in Southeast Asia that has never been ruled by foreign powers, not even western countries.

On FC they were pretty fast, though, and it seemed like Worf was the only that can take them down in a hand to hand combat situation...I don't know about a Klingon drone, though.

Untill we arrived at Voyager, unimatrix zero.....where Janeway whacks one with a Bat'leth and Torres batters one with a pipe.

Fair enough, in European militaries the bayonet is still considered a part of the infantry tradition and a useful addition.

There have been a few bayonet actions in the Iraq war and Afghanistan...

The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders put one in, in 04.

You should try training in Thailand... It's like you are in the state of permanent moistness...you are literally soaking in your own sweat. I went back over there for a year in 8th grade and buy the time we got in line and salute flag and started to make our way to the air conditioned class room, it's as if somebody pour a bucket of water all over me. I was like soaked! Literally! The heat and humidity are really perfect for any fighter who wants to train to build up their endurance. From experience...anyone who is not use to the high heat and humidity can easily sercome to heat exhaustion.

the reason I mentioned how gruesome the Klingons can be and how people can die a very horrible death in a fight with the Klingons, and basically any other race, is because that is the glory of war. A lot of movies candy coat war scenes, but in reality people die horribly in combat. Young men starved and badly hurt...the smell of burnt flesh....that's the kind of image that is the real war.

Found an interesting quote from the DS9 episode "Homefront".

Admiral Leyton tells President Jares inyo

LEYTON: Mister President, we can use the Lakota's transporters and communications system to mobilise every Starfleet officer on Earth in less than twelve hours. We've been preparing for something like this for a long time. We have stockpiles of phaser rifles, personal forcefields, photon grenades, enough to equip an entire army. I can start getting men on the streets immediately.

Hand to hand combat as depicted in ST is awful. Especially that ridiculous double axe handle they keep breaking out. Anybody trying that move in a real fight would be asking to get KTFO.

Present day real life Marines could easily beat up just about every character who has ever appeared in ST, other than Data or the shapeshifters.

Kirk's drop kick...now there was a move:lol:

He could have been in the WWE with that one.

Thailand was occupied by and was a puppet state of Japan during WWII. The Thai government ruled in name only all major decisions were made by or ratified by Japan.

There were underground resistance movement that passed on vital information to the Allies. They were doing it right under the Japanese nose. [chuckle] The government that ruled over Thailand wasn't recognized by the people anyway; that's why they didn't get punished after the Axis Power lost WW II. Technically, it wasn't part of the Axis Power.

It goes something along the line. It's been years since I brushed up on Thailand's history.
