I disliked several of the voices here, but I'm hopeful it's the audio mix of the trailer rather than indicative of how they'll all sound every episode.

I didn't notice any whispering. But the Klingon cadet was overdoing it with the deep voice. Overall it was passable and even intriguing,
The voices sounded fine. Reminded me of college and theater classes.
I think this second trailer was worst than the first. I have a feeling all the kids are going to be annoying on the show and it will be the adult characters people actually like.

Just once I would like to see someone join Starfleet because they want to become a explorer, again. Not as some escape to deal with family drama.

Kirk was trying to live up to daddy's example per the new info established since the 2009 movie, not to mention the trauma of Tarsus IV established in TOS and SNW claiming his dad was never around anyway.
Picard claimed he wanted to be explorer but he had a mentally ill mom who killed herself, a brother he hated, and basically an Amish dad. So yeah.
Let's not even get started on Michael Burnham. I suppose Philippa Georgiou (the dead one not the Mirror caricature) might count as a genuine explorer though but she was only in 2 episodes of Discovery.
I like to think Picard season 2 was a bad dream. Never happened.
I mean, even if you did just the episode 'Family' itself from TNG strongly implies that Jean-Luc was running to Starfleet away from some serious family issues.

I guess the Athena is quite a bit newer than a lot of the other ships we've seen. Perhaps ships like the Nog with NCC-325070 have been in service since pre-Burn and the Athena with NCC-392023 is a much newer vintage.
