Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Maul was a genuine surprise after the string of failures Disney has served up since they paid off Lucas.
You're of course entitled to your opinion but this is a somewhat bizarre statement. Great things had already come out under the Disney regime, and some of them involved Maul himself!

Season one of the Maul series was fine. And I’ll admit, he’s had some nice stuff during the Disney era (Siege of Mandalore, Twilight of the Apprentice, Twin Suns). But I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the whole “Let’s resurrect a bisected Sith Lord cuz he’s kewl.”

Edit: damn you, autocorrect!

When Maul told Devon what Sidious is the Emperor, she didn't react.

What's up with that?

I'm guessing that by 17 BBY surviving Jedi like Devon had realized that the new Emperor was the Sith Master, Darth Sidious, that her Order had been looking for the entire time? So why would she react? By two years after the end of the Clone Wars those lucky enough to survive Order 66 either knew Palpatine was Darth Sidious and the mastermind behind both the war and the Purge of the Jedi or they had strongly suspected he had been the bad guy the entire time?

Anyways, this ain't a Star Wars thread so that's it for me. Peace out, bitches.

Star Wars generally fails for me because so much of its storytelling and history requires the Jedi to be insufferable, narrow-minded idiots at all times.

The first two films were lightening in a bottle, everything else has been trying to recapture that magic since 1980.

Authority figure takes a troubled quasi criminal kid under their wing, sends them to a para military school where they thrive, eventually saving the day with the help of their odd assortment of friends.
This is one of the most ridiculous comparisons I've read yet. That's a concept not a beat for beat description. With that comparison you might as well join the Babylon 5 ripped off DS9 crowd.

To begin with Kelrec probably wants the Academy to fail and the War college to sail, but he's too much of a puppy-dog, be to be Harris outwardly sabotaging the new class of cadets, so I guess he's more like Proctor?

SFA wasn’t a great show, but there were interesting bits if one commits to watching it to the end. Unfortunately, it was massively flawed.

In the long run, it will probably be more fondly remembered by fans than it is now. Much like every other Star Trek show.

For an episode that was apparently rewritten and filmed in haste, they sure had some pretty detailed concept art prepared months before they finished filming the season.
Those are mostly just the basic blender concept sets created by Alyssia Ma that they used for the original design process of the physical sets.

Also, I'm kind of confused about why you're arguing this given the people in charge admitted to doing a full script rewrite right before filming.

Because clearly, as evidenced by concept art existing months before fiming finished, they intended to use the wrecked atrium as a set piece for some time, regardless of which version of the script was used.

We have no idea when they finished filming, we know, generally when the first seasons production finished, but that's a distinctly different thing from filming.

According to IMDb the filming (not production) for the first season concluded on January 31, 2025. This TrekCore article quotes several of the actors posting about the wrap of filming for season one in early February of 2025. The article notes that a lengthy post production phase following the filming is to be expected. The concepts for the atrium in “Rubincon” by Connor Lucas are dated December 5th, 2024. So almost three months earlier.
