Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

No...the tedious Prison stuff.

And sorry nothing has topped the original 1977 version of STAR WARS either.

Finding out the Empire was ruled by the Wicked Witch of the West's brother was a letdown - and as we saw in RotJ, Boba Fett was overrated.

Maul was a genuine surprise after the string of failures Disney has served up since they paid off Lucas.

It's not far off, though. Is it coincidence? Maybe. But it definitely doesn't indicate SFA was doing anything remotely groundbreaking, original, or memorable.
Originlity is extremely hard to argue these days. Break anything down into their base components and you can easily argue xyz did this first.

Memorable will always be in the brain of the beholder.

All true points.

Is it the worst show in the franchise? No, I think it's still marginally better than DISCO, mainly because SFA at least tried to do something more with the aftermath of the Burn, rather than it seem like once they found the cause and the dilithium world it's more or less business as usual again. (Bringing back Betazed and the status of/relations with the Klingon Empire, for example, were interesting ideas post-Burn.) I also liked Genesis, Braka, Jay-den, and Ake (more as a character than a Starfleet captain). And there were a couple interesting ideas with some of the others, but I wasn't keen on their execution. (I also like Reno and The Doctor, but since they didn't originate here, I didn't include them with the others I mentioned.)

But I'd place SFA 11th out of the 12 shows.

But one thing is hard to dispute: SFA wasn't lighting any fires or making huge waves.

I chalk it up to an interesting failure. Ake/Braka was interesting, the Academy part was a failure.
Probably the best way to put it: an interesting failure.

Indeed while the myriad reasons for why will be debated until the end of time it is a sad fact that the show did not have the desired impact.

If Zoe had used her real accent, 27 million Australians would have tuned in every week. Kim Katral in police Academy was described as a "socialite wanting to give back to the community, who likes a bit of rough." Zoes Steiner was described in Star Fleet Academy as "Princess wanting to give back to galaxy, who likes a bit of rough."
