Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Late to this but I'm guessing that Stamets and Culber on the memorial wall was from the cover story that Discovery was destroyed in the 23rd century and all hands lost, and when Discovery showed up alive in the 32nd century they just never bothered to change it?

Culber is credited with his post time jump rank, I believe.

Yeah I noticed that for Stamets also. Although there's still wiggle room that they got an honorary posthumous promotion after their 23rd century "deaths" and then just got promoted to that rank for real upon the 32nd century. That raises the question of why people like Nog didn't get posthumous promotions, but considering that the coverup of Discovery's disappearance was probably going to raise a lot of questions from friends and family, the posthumous promotions may have been a bone thrown at them to help deflect attention.

Which kind of goes against Vance's claim that he never heard of Discovery in Disco S3 if they still had records of 2 of their officers being killed with Discovery (or he didn't even bother to do a basic database search).

Not keen on Nog listed as lieutenant, at least let him get to captain like STO did. I'm guessing he might've been killed in Vau N'akat fleet massacre in Prodigy.

Erica Ortegas and La'an being listed as lieutenants doesn't look good for Strange New Worlds honestly. Also, if they do die at the end of SNW, considering that Pike saw them alive in the Quality of Mercy timeline, Pike will then have to live with the fact that his "sefless" act to go through with the delta radiation accident gets two of his friends killed early. Although La'an dying in Starfleet service might be what helps trigger Khan's rampage in Space Seed when he reads about it on the Enterprise computer. It might also revert Spock from the rather chipper emotional fellow in SNW to the withdrawn, very cold, non-emotional guy at the start of TOS, so at least that explanation will be provided.

Or, given that SNW was ongoing at the time the Wall was created, TPTB didn't want to give away spoilers.

That wall of names was nothing more than the production just wanting to self congratulate themselves that they 'know' the franchise by inserting a lot of names from past shows. But they did only the barest actual research (found random names on Memory Alpha and inserted them on the wall, most likely)... otherwise there wouldn't be ANY members of Red Squad from "VALIANT" there and the list wouldn't be mostly comprised of names from only the first 250 years of Starfleet history. It defies all belief that in the almost 800 years between PICARD and SFA there wasn't at least as many, if not more, people who made contributions worthy of being named on that wall.

This is an example of what I have said before about shrinking the STAR TREK universe instead of expanding it.

Nog making it just to lieutenant also doesn't make much sense do them them naming a whole Starship after him. Though I do have theory he might have left Starfleet earlier to replace his dad as Nagus and was a important political figure that helped lead the Ferengi into joining the Federation. Building off some of the progress first started with Rom as Nagus.
Not if Nog performed an act that made him a hero to the Federation.

IRL the USN will name ships after Medal of Honor or Navy Cross Recipients, without regard to rank, and even if they are still alive when the vessel is named.

Had to go to San Francisco Tuesday evening at 5:15 PM for an MRI at UCSF China Basin Radiology, on Berry Street, between 4th and 3rd streets. A San Francisco Public library branch is on 4th street between Berry and Channel streets. Since I arrived 30 minutes early, I went in and was able to get a public library card good for 4 years. Luckily they had received some more of these:

They have been issuing a lot of them since they became available last month, and the staff said they were the most popular card to be issued. It is good for 4 years and is free to California residents with a valid ID.
A friend was there, didn't even know about it and just wanted a card, and was surprised he got "a Trek thing instead". Because he hasn't even seen any Trek, he gave them to me :D
