Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

While I'm enjoying this season, I have to say that whoever is in charge of putting together titles for the episodes this go around is astoundingly lazy.

Edit: I mean, the Betazoid episode is named Beta Test. The away mission is named Come, Let's Away. The SAM focused episode is just her name in long form.

These really feel like working titles for the writer's room, and then no one thought to rename them.

2285: "We have a torpedo that can create entire life-supporting planets! We've solved most of the problems of colonization!"

2375: "Oh, yeah, about a century ago there was a torpedo that could create a planet. Hmmmm. Anyways...."

Trek always does the big thing that is either forgotten or sidelined by the next big thing.

Welcome to Trek.
2381: That torpedo was mass produced, miniaturized, and regularly used for terraforming.

Where did you get that from?

Season 2 premiere mostly takes place on a dilithium mining planet.
The The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail, the whole episode was about a pre-warp ship that cobbled together a warp drive using Aldentium as a fuel source.

The protowarp drive uses dilithium
A tiny bit for it's exotic matter matrix, and unlike running Anti-Matter streams through it that wouldn't degrade it.

At least “come, let’s away” is a Shakespeare reference, which is a Trek staple at this point.

So that's a screencap from the comic they used in the episode? Because that uniform looks exactly like a TOS uniform. Not even a SNW uniform.

What are you saying here? Disco's third to fifth seasons are clearly not a prequel to SFA since Disco came first, and a prequel by definition is released after the production it is a prequel to. And no, those Disco seasons do not take place after the events of SFA for quite a few obvious reasons, among them the fact that the Federation was still reeling from the Burn in S3 and Earth was not a Federation member in S3, while in SFA Earth is once again part of the Federation and the Federation has recovered from the Burn. Plus, you know, there's the fact Reno is in SFA and that Discovery itself was mentioned in the first episode.

what i am trying to say is when star trek discovery i think time traveled a thousands years later into the way way more future in season 3 to 5 that was the i guess beginning of the new timeline or was it timeframe of the star trek tv universe then after discovery ended the sequel was star trek starfleet academy

It's a timeframe. Meaning the time that the show takes place in. In this case, the 32nd Century.

Okay. Correct, I guess? Sorry, but you have that written in a very confusing way.

Punctuation is your friend.

I mean it's a drawing. There's a chance the uniforms may have had detail that couldn't transfer to the art work. Also the fact the comic is about Starfleet in it's heyday that the author may have used artistic license and chosen to depict the crew in classic 'golden age of starfleet' costumes.

My personal head canon is that the Federation and Starfleet were returning to and celebrating their core values after the devastation of the Temporal War. They built the constitution class to honour the original class and what it represented and built the Courage and Friendship classes and named them after core values of both Starfleet and the Federation and they had uniforms that were bright and hopeful. Then the Burn hits and it all goes to shit.

My point is that if they are going to retcon the visual distinctiveness of TOS, then they should be consistent with it. In this retconned prime universe, it should have been the SNW uniforms used in the comic, not TOS, if the comic was supposed to be a representation of the 23rd century. But I haven’t seen the episode so perhaps my judgments are faulty.

Yeah you probably should watch the episode, because you don't know what you are talking about. They aren't retconning anything. It's a comic book that was written post-burn by someone who probably didn't live in the period that the comic depicts, which is the late 31st century. There's no indication if the uniforms depicted ARE the uniforms that were worn during that period or whether it was some type of artistic license by an author who had never known or met Starfleet officers.
