Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm genuinely bothered by some hate posts regarding SFA on social media... I saw one where they've selected a short clip of the Doctor singing 'pa pa pa' etc. with remarks like 'this is what has become of a once great series', 'death of a franchise', etc. Very uncalled for and unwaranted imo. First, how many times have we not seen and heard the Doctor sing on VOY... It's very much in character.. And second, the opera piece served as a parallel to the ongoing negotiations, with ultimately the Betazoids leaving angrily, just like the Doctors singing partner... It was actually a brilliant piece... Again, I know I should just block out these hate posts, but it's very hard for me to do unfortunately.
I notice its changing - it's moved on to personal attacks (Ozempic etc) with some ironically using pics of Mary Wiseman from a few years ago. They can't win on substance or audience reception any more. I notice a lot of them a King Terry of Legacyland types as well, who much prefer a blonde woman zipped so tightly into a catsuit that she feints and can't go pee without help.

Gina Yashere is barely in the first two episodes, yet people are already loving her character left and right, because she has some of the best/funniest lines. I feel like Lura Thok will end up being one of the most iconic, well-remembered elements of this show. We‘re lucky to have her on Starfleet Academy.
Really? :wtf:

I found Lura Thok's drill Sergent act in her introduction more then a little distasteful, and since then I felt like she's been pretty two dimensional with how she continually feels the need to repeat Jem'Hadar/Klingon taglines.

Distasteful is a pretty strong word with heavy implications.

She pulled the full drill Sergent physical bullying act on someone who hadn't even registered as a cadet yet and dragged a random passing cadet who had just finished registering in to participate in said bullying.

So yes, I found the whole thing more then a little distasteful.

I think she is okay. Not sure why Jem Haddar though would still be saying "Victory is Life" when it seems they have changed a lot as a species. They now have females. They also aren't addicted to The White. My guess is Odo had a big influence in changing the way The Changlings treat them and the Vorta. Not to mention how The Dominion itself is ran. Assuming it still exists.

The Founders were capable of traveling at high Warp speeds under their own power, so the Dominion probably came out of the Burn stronger then ever.

Haven’t posted here for years, but these two episodes are fantastic, though perhaps despite the main character. Of all the elements of the show, his feels the weakest and least engaging to me.

But pull back and look at the world, recovering from a period of darkness, with hope again for the future. It’s the tonic I needed, especially now.
agreed. Caleb is , at the moment, probably my least favourite character. I understand his motivations for resenting Starfleet, i just hope they file down his rough edges as the season progresses, and make him more likeable.

He reminds me a bit of Chris Pine's Kirk at the beginning of Trek 09. Very cocky. Complete with Holly Hunter's recruitment scene being similar to Pike's ' I dare you to do better'

You know what I have noticed. I think this is the first Trek show to only have one human as a series regular. Caleb is the only one. Everyone else is a alien or hologram or half Lanthanite which I think are aliens or I am really not sure what their deal is other than they were inspired by the Flint character on TOS.
Is Jett Reno human? I must admit , i forgot what she said about her origins in Disco season 2. Also i thought Vance was human?

she's already one of the most memorable characters to me. I love her lines, she's so funny. I'm glad to see most of us agree she's a standout
