Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

I watched both episodes, and they were better than I expected. As for negative reactions, someone on another forum I frequent wondered if Ozempic existed in the 32nd century, which I thought was rather cruel.

You know what I have noticed. I think this is the first Trek show to only have one human as a series regular. Caleb is the only one. Everyone else is a alien or hologram or half Lanthanite which I think are aliens or I am really not sure what their deal is other than they were inspired by the Flint character on TOS.

A dilithium planet was found that helps with rebuilding and reconnecting, and then they developed the pathway drive which looks a lot like regular warp on a visual level (handy for us the audience) but it is different in an as of yet unspecified way. It's been 2 years since the pathway drive was perfected so we don't know how many ships are using it just yet, I imagine the Athena has one and the retrofit Discovery was undergoing could be to have one installed for the times when the ship doesn't need to spore jump.
Athena has a regular warp drive, this is specified in the episode when they call it a Warp Drive.

She did. Ships in the 24th century did recrystalise their dilithium but I suppose it just prolongs it and can't make it last forever.
Someone should have told that to Scotty given he's the one actually credited as discovering it.

it is most likely still warp just a dilithium free alternative. Plus what are they going to call the speeds "engage at maximum path"

Scotty seemed very unfamiliar with the dilithium recomposition used in the Enterprise. He may have found a way to do it but Xahean technology is likely what allows them to do it inside the chamber.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm genuinely bothered by some hate posts regarding SFA on social media... I saw one where they've selected a short clip of the Doctor singing 'pa pa pa' etc. with remarks like 'this is what has become of a once great series', 'death of a franchise', etc. Very uncalled for and unwaranted imo. First, how many times have we not seen and heard the Doctor sing on VOY... It's very much in character.. And second, the opera piece served as a parallel to the ongoing negotiations, with ultimately the Betazoids leaving angrily, just like the Doctors singing partner... It was actually a brilliant piece... Again, I know I should just block out these hate posts, but it's very hard for me to do unfortunately.

Just seen Ep 1 and let's say...I have a lot of reservations.

Gina Yashere isn't one of them - I have no doubts. She's the worst actor I have seen in Trek.

In fact she's possibly the worst actress I've seen. She's absolutely appalling !
I find this opinion hilarious because Star Trek has had some truly awful actors, with the Gorgon coming immediately to mind, much less Robert Beltran.

You should have seen the negative stuff about the first few episodes of TNG in 1987. (Via letters columns, and some dial up BBS and early Usenet posts.)

I'm not a fan of SFA and IDK if I'll watch the full season but for any new Trek series this is nothing new.

The only thing that matters is Do you like it?

If the answer is "Yes" keep watching and don't worry what others think.

Beltran looks positively Oscar worthy next to Yashire.

Genuinely a bit surprised that people licked her performance - I watched it with two other people and we all formed much the same opinion of her independently. It only came out in discussion later.
