i know , that must hurt. I felt bad for him when Sam brought up Voyager and the Protostar kids, they'd all be long dead.

I don't click on negative nelly reviews, and if i do click on a video which turns out to be a negatively biased slagging off session, i just turn the video off.
I'm all for constructive criticism, but these grifters are never happy with anything . They don't have one positive thing to say about anything.
May not hurt as much as we think, given how he basically completely forgot Kes even existed after "THE GIFT". (That was the fault of the writers, though. She was a MAJOR part of his life those first 3 seasons, and was his only advocate at the start. The lack of a mention, even a brief one or even on a sporadic occasion, didn't make sense to my wife. And she's right.)

I doubt she watched more than 60 seconds of an episode of anything remotely Star Trek
So I've now watched both 3 times, and gotten something new each time. I'm also massively engaged on this forum (over 20 posts). I think they got me. (male, age 53, straight, never went to any sort of post 18 education).
What’s funny to me is that even though the video is probably meant to make Starfleet Academy look ridiculous and bad, it still manages to make it look like a totally amazing show. You’d barely need to change a thing and this could actually have been a funny/quirky trailer for the show.

Nothing could make what they've shown of SFA so far look like "an amazing show."
A dilithium planet was found that helps with rebuilding and reconnecting, and then they developed the pathway drive which looks a lot like regular warp on a visual level (handy for us the audience) but it is different in an as of yet unspecified way. It's been 2 years since the pathway drive was perfected so we don't know how many ships are using it just yet, I imagine the Athena has one and the retrofit Discovery was undergoing could be to have one installed for the times when the ship doesn't need to spore jump.
Sorry I had to drop out of the discussion yesterday. If anything, I agree with what you’re saying here: I would absolutely have preferred if the writers had added a line showing that Ake wasn’t keen on total destruction, but just keeping the enemy at bay.
Why would we be inclined to believe Braka to just peacefully “cut out the warp core and leave”, though? They did fire on the ship before, causing destruction and injuring several crew members, accepting the possibility that they killed people. It was just by pure luck that no-one got killed.
In all seriousness, I’m sorry the show isn’t to your liking (yet). I was kind of prepared to not like it myself, considering how barely watchable I found Discovery to be. But those first two episodes, while still firmly placed in the Discovery universe, have a very different feel to me that has me hopeful that they were able to break out of the triteness of meaninglessness. On Discovery I often felt like the writers had no clue just how to even craft the basics of storytelling in their scripts. But here it feels someone in the writers room is finally making sure the scripts meet the minimum requirements for dramatic writing. Almost no aspect in Starfleet Academy is terribly original, but to me those clichés and stereotypes are at least employed competently. I’m sure there will be stinkers along the way, but right now I’m cautiously optimistic that they’ll be able to produce some quality Star Trek.

She did. Ships in the 24th century did recrystalise their dilithium but I suppose it just prolongs it and can't make it last forever.

Haven’t posted here for years, but these two episodes are fantastic, though perhaps despite the main character. Of all the elements of the show, his feels the weakest and least engaging to me.

I don't hate it. There's just not much to it.
Maybe it's the Voyager of the Kurtzman era - the current style and versions of old tropes just petering out as it all runs down...
A planet was found with more than enough dilithium to restore the galaxy to the days of yore.
