Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Problem is they did the movies so they needed yet another goodbye then the messed up the second goodbye in Nemesis so they needed one more to finally seal it shut.
Nemesis was a servicable finale, all the traits are there. Picard season 1 was an excellent coda to it. Beautiful goodbyes were said. It was shut and done then.

A do over to indulge in fan fiction was not needed.

I think Nemesis was a terrible movie. Picard season 1 was okay but Picard season 3 was simply way better. Of course after season 2, they didn't need to just say goodbye to the TNG gang again they also for sure wanted to go out on something better than season 2. Picard season 3 basically gave the show a purpose that it never had.

To be honest as much as I like Picard season 3 I would have preferred if the show had been a prestige drama with old Picard basically doing something series with a bunch of other older well loved character actors. Something that didn't feel like it needed a spaceship and action scenes but we didn't really get that. I recall back in the day even hoping he might convince his friend Ian McKellen to be part of the cast or Maggie Smith but it didn't happen.

TNG already had a goodbye finale, and a film that was goodbye to the Enterprise-D and then a film that was a goodbye to the cast. It had enough goodbyes and shouldn't have stolen a season off another show. It was bad enough it stole ENT's finale. I love TNG but it should have stayed in TNG.
yeah. Like , how many finales does TNG need? I love TNG. It was my first Trek series.

But enough of them, already. The people clamouring for Legacy , just want more Matalas fan wank -fest.

We've seen more than enough of TNG crew.

So using what already exists as a foundational element is "fanwank" in your world?

Well I can certainly tell you have no writing credentials.
The "Omega particle" would just be a different bit of meaningless technobabble.

Far from "foundational" and yes, fankwank.

We got at least one more TNG goodbye waiting for us in the future. The TNG reboot with a whole new cast, when they eventually get around to making it.

They're trying go.bear Return of the King fjr ending scenes. McKellen and Stewart have a bet.

Facebook is pretty negative about it, too.

If you look at X, it's so negative you'd think Kurtzman had fired Zack Snyder.

There are people out their who still think DC is going to bring back Snyder and when he does he will give everyone the Cavill Superman that everyone wants. It's pretty crazy.

Is that all? It feels.. coordinated. And yeah I am being serious.
Why is any social media outlet so negative? It generates hits and attention.
Rddit is different though, they've all been very positive about Nu-Trek since the last decade.
Except this one. Like SFA is hurting them physically.

KEK! That's a great analogy but on my X it's been 50-50.
Some are positively hyped, others are malding down.
Tawny was right, there is no middle ground anymore. :sigh:

People who let hate rule their lives. It's a bitter crime syndicate style rivalry that will broke no competitor.
Could be that and you're right but I feel it's like a coordinated campaign, not like it hasn't happened before.
And people everywhere is calling the new ship Athena as 'Enterprise' as well. :shifty:

People are use to just repeating things now from the usual suspects on YT who just got to see all the early reviews and so parrot the same nonsense comments.

The reality is that online fandom has delved in to a cesspool of hatred and now it cycles more because of YT channels who repeated the same talking points that are easily repeated:
  • Kurtzman is bad.
  • Star Trek is ruined.
  • Tru-Trek needs to come back.
It's nonsensical, and ignores the fundamental aspect of Star Trek than fans insist is needed for the world to become better, yet refuse to practice the so called enlightenment that Star Trek supposedly offers.

But, it's not new:

Synder and Gun were palling it up on Rick and Morty last year.

My gut feeling is that Gun has given Synder "Amush Bug" to Synderize.
