The TNG films are nothing to be proud of. Of the four, First Contact was the only critical success. The other three got poor to mixed reception not just from critics, but the fan base. Star Trek Nemesis was a box office bomb and effectively put the nail in the coffin of the Berman Era.
Still they chose to make the because of the success and popularity of tng. The current shows are not nearly as popular.

Okay... Let me spell it out for you then...

Paramount took a loss producing Star Trek Discovery and it's spinoff's so they could attract people to their streaming service.

That’s par for the course for any new media delivery service. You have to spend money to make money. Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes it doesn’t. It’s not as end of the world as it might seem.

I always liked how on TNG when they would use the steam smoke when it seemed like the warp core was going to explode. Like in "Yesterday's Entperirse" and "Violations." Shame they didn't find excuses to bring down the isolation door more often. Always felt that was a neat part of the set.
I always wondered why the Warp Core auto ejection system NEVER worked in GR's 'perfect technological world'..

They were what? 0 for 4...?
;)

No. They’re not. It’s also a far different media landscape. The audience is HUGELY fragmented now in comparison to 1993.

Look at stranger things and downton abbey. Stranger Things got a theater release of its first two eps before the new season. Dowton got a full motion picture. Both much more popular and well known than kurtzman trek and they are running at the same time as kurtzman trek.

Why the ever loving Spock caroling heck do we care about popularity? In all my years of Trek fandom I've never been considered popular for liking Star Trek. Called a Trekkie, at best, loser at worst, and was just for liking TOS instead of TNG in the early 90s. Trek fans celebrated being niche, that it was a s how for the Intelligentsia (as laughable as that is looking back) and that the rubes only liked STAR WARS.

Two, Trek being popular has not made it good. People love Deep Space Nine, yet it still was a part of the viewership decline in the 90s. Same with Voyager. If it becomes popular, then it will just become more of the supposed "pew-pew" than the Intelligentsia fans insist is bad for the franchise, while ignoring the money making films involve action, and action adventure elements that TOS was known for.

Finally, popularity is overrated. STRANGER THINGS is garbage. It's ugly horror masquerading in 80s kitsch. Should STAR TREK steer in to 80s drip in order to win over audience members who won't actually care, and the hardcore fans will hate?

It's all the high school level popularity bullshit that most Star Trek fans bitched about in high school, and not want to keep playing that game.

Okay, and?

Those shows are clear exceptions and are not the norm, so it’s not a fair comparison.

Yes they made four movies that run on the spectrum from total shit to not bad. That is quite the achievement. TNG was great, it's movies not so much. By your metric, DS9 was terrible because it never resulted in a movie series.
Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise were all bad, everyone knows this.

Or so I've been told ;)

Eh? Maybe Stranger Things ran "at the same time" given it premiered in 2016, a year before Disco, but Downton Abbey? The TV series ran from 2010 to 2015. It ended two years before Disco began. How is that "running at the same time as Kurtzman Trek"?

Star Trek has had a few times during the Kurtzman era that they’ve put episodes in theaters. Regardless that’s not the same as a feature film.

Also, Downton Abbey is cheaper to produce than Star Trek or Stranger Things. The final Downton movie’s budget was $50 million and was made as a film. When it was a series, the budget was rumored to be $1.5 million per episode. The final season of Stranger Things has a rumored budget of $480 million (breaking down to $60 million per episode). SFA is rumored to have a $20 million budget per episode, while previous series under Kurtzman ran between $8-11.5 million.

Prove me wrong then?

When TNG premiered, a lot were against it but came round to it.
When DS9 premiered quite a lot of Trek fans hated the concept of Starbase Trek, but we all came around to liking it, it's a classic now.
VOY, same reaction, fans took their time, but came round to it.
Only ENT had a bigger cloud of negative fan reaction which at the time were kind of justified but overall it's a classic now.

Kelvin Timeline, we all know how that turned out, not cuz of fan disinterest but Paramount's mismanagement.

Kurtzman Trek, starting with DSC, actually had great goodwill at the start.
Fans were excited but then they saw the product and now at the end, every single show except PIC went out with a whimper.
It's not that majority of fans hate Trek anymore, it's just complete apathy.
I disagree on the enterprise being a classic. It does have its fan, I like a couple of the seasons, but there is no general feeling anywhere that its a classic, not even close.

You can see the drop off for Disco over at the rating areas like RT and IMDB. It kept a consistent amount of engagement until season 3 and it dropped off like a rock, especially season 5. The ratings never beat out strange new worlds and had consistent droping through season 4. Season 5 saw a small increase. On RT when season 3 hit people just stopped caring.

Funny enough Picard never really saw a dropoff, you acutally see a increase for season 3. Funny enough you see a big increase for the last 2 episodes.

Strange new worlds had 2 strong seasons and is the strongest of the new treks bothing in ratings and engagement. Though in season 3 it had large drop off and we shall see how well it does with the next 2 seasons. Interesting fact though, the singing episode and LD crossover are the most like episodes.

Lower decks is just as highly rated at SNW, but has the worst engagement out of all the show for nu trek.

It will be interesting to see how SFA does, though we really wont know the true numbers until I would say august at the earliest. You need time for user reviews to accumulate, and for the websites to weed out the hate bombing reviews. You can use the RT critics review count, but I find the user reviews more useful, though they take a lot longer to get.

As I mentioned above engagement has dropped but still a favorible show. Now look at SFA, its in the negative when it comes to the like to dislike ratio, and when that happens the show/movie bombs hard.

I did enjoy that trailer, it actually had a reconsiable vulcan in it. Spock does fine (except disco) but he goes off sometimes that feel off putting.
