Star Wars Rebels Season Two (spoilers)

We'll have to wait for this Fall to see how the rest of the season plays out. We know from the preview that the next episode will be the Ghost crew going to find Captain Rex and some other old Clone Troopers that one assumes will still follow orders from "Commander" Tano (having avoided getting Order 66). Also an old AT-TE against some early AT-AT style walkers.

Apparently Rex is going to be a recurring character. At least according to an article from someone who interviewed one of the showrunners. So yay.

Honestly I'm fine with how Jone's voice. It sounded like Vader to me. If you're going to mess around with it digitally, why even bother hiring the original actor?

Also, every Rebels discussion I've seen online seems to be ignoring the obvious gorilla in the room. And that of course is, Ghost vs the Millenium Falcon. :)

Ghost vs Millenium Falcon?

That likely depends on what they are verses in?

A race? Falcon, no questions asked.

Cargo capacity? Unknown at this time.

Firepower? Probably the Ghost, but the Falcon's missiles and heavy overlapping arcs with its quad lasers make up for a lot of things. The Phantom on the Ghost's back makes it an interesting comparison.

Defenses? Just how strong are the Ghost's shields? We know the Falcon's got capital ship grade shielding and can stand up to turbolaser fire from Star Destroyers for a little while. Ghost can take a beating as well, but the scale is unknown so far.

Piloting skills? Hera's good, but Han's crazy good. (Her actress would probably be the first to put Solo over Hera in skill level).

Better question: Where is the Falcon? We assume Lando's already lost it to Han by now, but we can't be certain of that. Is it just one of Lando's many side businesses? Used ship salesman? The monster hotrod of a junkpile sitting in the back were no one pays attention to it so when Lando needs a fast ship on his own, he's got one. Or did he already lose it playing cards with Solo and Han's out in the Corperate Sector causing trouble?

It's possible that the Ghost will be getting a shield upgrade.... ;)

They both seem to be about even in maneuverability. Able to match Imperial fighters with relative ease.

Why do people keep bringing up electronic processing? That's not the issue at all. The electronic treatment for Vader's voice is the same as it's always been. What's changed is the way James Earl Jones is delivering the lines. People's voices and performance styles change as they get older. That's inevitable. We talked last season about how different Billy Dee Williams's performance is now. If anything, I'm surprised Frank Oz's Yoda voice in that Jedi Temple episode didn't sound more changed from the old days. (Or maybe it did, but I just didn't notice because it was still a ton closer than Tom Kane's Yoda ever was.)

I just watched the episode, simply fantastic. As too the "voice" issue, to me it sounded like JEJ was standing a mile away from the Mic. He just didn't have the same temblor in his voice. Yet, every few lines it sounded like the Darth Vader we know and love.

Or maybe people are just looking for something to nitpick, and forget that these actors are 30-something years older than the last time they played these characters?

Those Corellians are some bad-ass shipbuilders aren't they?

And the whole Darth Vader voice thing...seriously? It's Vader's voice. Period. End of story. They didn't go out and try to find some no-name to imitate him. They got James Earl Freaking Jones. Just shut up and bask in the awesomeness of that fact.

He sounds different? So what. Pay attention kids, he's sounded different in every single Star Wars movie he worked on. In Star Wars the character was new so he was mystery uber-villain. In ESB he was man-with-an-obsession. In Jedi he was facing one destiny and ended up with another, so he was fatalistic. In Revenge he was a young broken man who first stepped into his role as dark lord. Every single one of those aspects required him to do the voice in a different way. His reading this episode is just one more way of tackling the character, not because of processing, or because he's old, but because he's that good an actor.

(Jeez...this series has so many other flaws and this is what people obsess over...)

Yeah, but I don't understand why they'd think that a change in the electronic treatment could be mistaken for a change in delivery or performance. That's just not how the technology -- or the human voice -- works. That's like assuming you could alter an actor's facial expressions and body language by changing the exposure, contrast, and color balance of the film.

I watched it last night, the episode gave me chills as well. I thought Vader was handled, although I wish he would have force choked someone. I think Ashoka is hiding her connection with Vader. I think maybe she thinks Vader killed Anakin. I like that Cader is wondering about Obiwan.

What I found curious about that exchange is that Palpatine said "if he yet lives". I can only assume he doesn't want Vader to get distracted by focusing on Obi Wan.
Perhaps he even feels that Vader going off on such a personal vendetta actually poses a threat to his dominance? Maybe he's concerned the lingering traces of Anakin could be rekindled?

I think it's interesting that the Emperor seems reticent to kick this particular bee hive. I mean he has to know both Kenobi and Yoda are unaccounted for and as the only two surviving members of the council they're his greatest threat (besides Vader or course) and the longer they're out there unchecked, the more they're liable to cause him difficulty.
I know overconfidence in his plans are foresight are well established as his fatal flaw, but he's not *stupid*.

Of course it's also possible that he just think Kenobi is dead, I mean in universe it has been 15 years since Obi-Wan was last seen.

It would also make sense seeing as he had Vader move the Inquisitors from hunting Jedi to hunting young force sensitives to keep them from becoming Jedi, kind of implies that he thinks the major Jedi threats aren't around anymore.

At some point, and I don't believe we know when, Palpatine will have a vision in which Vader brings Luke before the Emperor. Whether he saw this next part too or not, or just believes it for some other reason such as his lust for power, or only hopes for it, the Emperor also seems to believe or hope that Luke will kill Vader and take his father's place as the Emperor's new apprentice. The Emperor always liked to trade up in the apprenticeship department. If the vision, or part of it, had somehow come as early as the Rebels era, then Vader finding Kenobi too soon would upset that applecart.
