I have mixed feeling about this episode. There were some very funny moments. But there were also some annoying parts.

Love the idea of a Vulcan named Doug. Also the yelling Vulcan Pike. lol

Way too much talk of Katras for my taste. When Spock died Kirk, Mccoy and rest of the crew had no clue what a katra was. Almost as bad as ENT where they had Archer carry the freaking Katra of the most famous Vulcan ever. I wished the prequels had stayed away from Katras.

Apparently it's okay because they can just say something, make the change, and then it is so. Boy, Janeway should have just said "we're home now" and, boom, they can be there!

don't have a problem with them taking the original characters in other directions, but I just wish I enjoyed the episodes more
This.

I welcome the variety and don't think that somehow I know everything about the TOS characters with the limited information given.

That said, SNW did it's best work with T'Pring and The Kirk brothers for adding contexts to previous relationships.

Isn't this the same Star Trek Universe that we didn't know Spock had a hidden "Half-Brother" until the movie happened.

Then we didn't know he had a hidden "Adopted Human Sister" until the show happened?

Yes in what is widely regarded as the worst Star Trek movie ever (I don't hate it, but that's a fact) and what I consider the worst Star Trek series ever (or maybe that's Picard, close call...)

They say correlation is not causation. But also sometimes it is.

Irrelevant. The most popular Trek film, as noted, is full of worse examples of a small universe and coincidence. And a "hidden} relative to boot!!!

Small universe is a feature not a bug in Star Trek.

This is true.....but at Least Enterprise was so far time wise from TOS that it's understandable that Kirk and Crew didn't know. But SNW is just a couple years away now and Kirk is mingling with the Crew. So it really makes TWOK/SFS look like they all have Amnesia about Katra. Oh well. The writers just gonna do what they want. We may as well just get used to it.. 😏

Hell, look how often Captains speak to the same flag officers when they send messages to Starfleet Command. A vast interstellar union thousands of light-years across with a pretty big Starfleet full of uncounted thousands if not millions of officers and enlisted personnel, and Komack, Nechayev and Hayes end up answering the call a lot.

Even if they kill her off or she changes her name and goes to live on some backwater planet or she goes to work for Section 31, they all still know La’An, whose surname is notorious enough to cause comment wherever she goes, whose inherited Augment status is well known, and who was romantically interested in Prime Kirk and has mind melded with and is currently sleeping with Spock. When Space Seed comes up, how do they all not remember La’An?
How do we know they don't? Or is this how you think dialogue should have gone in Space Seed?

KHAN: I'm sorry, Captain. I was lost in thought. My door. Locked from outside, a guard posted.
KIRK: Unusual treatment for Khan Noonien Singh.
KHAN: Excellent. You identified me with your computer system, I imagine.
KIRK: You know, I met your great, great [x whatever] granddaughter. She had a thing for me, claimed we got together in an alternate timeline. Mr. Spock, on the other hand. Got together with her in this timeline.
[Khan stares blankly at Kirk.]
KIRK: I'd like those answers now. First, the purpose of your star flight.

I saw it as the joke being on the 'fake' Vulcans for being assholes. The genuine Vulcans in the episode, Spock and Doug were decent people. Perhaps having all four as arrogant pricks was a bit over the top, but I doubt, even with a fictional race, ALL Vulcans are stoic, wise and intelligent, just as IRL some humans are decent people and some humans are nasty piece of work.

Yeah I get that. The 4 Vulcans just felt too much like over the top caricatures and stereotypes for me. I think that turned me off from the episode.

Oh my gosh. I forgot about the upcoming puppet episode. So stupid. They are starting to spend more time with stupid comedy thats been done before than solid sci-fi stories. These guys who produce this show are totally in love with the Buffy and Angel shows I guess.
Buffy and Angel are excellent shows.

Vulcans are a different species not a different race, so by definition it can't be racist. No more than cats being aloof and dogs being friendly is.
Trek probably hasn't referred to extraterrestrial as species rather than races ten time in 60 years. It's just a trope.

The worst of the Trek franchise would probably be And the Children Shall Lead or Plato's Stepchildren. SNW at its worst (which this episode isn't) is still many times better than that.
