I wouldn't put it past kurtzman. The first star trek sitcom. We'll see the comedy home life of 23rd century characters. Yuck.

They named the planet for a sandwich shop for the sake of one throwaway joke that probably 95% of viewers wouldn't get, so yeah, I'd say you are correct about "Doug."

There are others, but those are the major ones I can think of where he's not under the control of something or someone else. I get it. We look at Vulcans as this race that never shows emotion, but Spock is half human. And his human emotions come through from time to time, especially as he's younger and figuring it all out, which he's doing here. This wasn't my favorite episode of SNW (by a long shot), but this is a silly complaint.

I'm glad it's not taking itself too seriously. Basically the anti-Discovery in that sense. Is it a perfect balance? Probably not, but at least they're trying.

I'm surprised how I'm starting to hate SNW for different reasons to why I hated Discovery.

I gave up on Discovery, and am getting very close on SNW. But for different reasons.

This was a complete creepy grin from ear to ear at the camera and after a long comedy bit. Just weird. The TOS examples are mostly of spock giving a slight smile. Way different.

Okay, this has been getting to me a bit. Why did Pike and the gang continuing wearing their Vulcan robes throughout the entire time they were Vulcan? Since they were still active duty Starfleet officers, they should have been wearing their Starfleet uniforms, regardless of what species they currently are.

I guess the producers felt we wouldn't get they were full Vulcan without seeing they were wearing Vulcan clothing. Also why did they have weapons going down to the planet? Didn't make sense.

Yes. Both several times. The smiles were very quick and not like what we get in this show. They built this overly emotional spock off of those two brief smiles. But smiling at the camera and breaking the fourth wall was too much for me.

So let's just justify 3 awful silly episodes out of ten for SNW by a handful of better episodes from better shows over the course of like 800 episodes. ...ok whatever.....

This episode was bad and it's going to go down in history as one of the worst Trek Episodes ever. Probably worse than Spocks Brain.......

The real shame is that Vulcans are really interesting and there's a lot to engage with and explore, even if (especially if?) approached from a comedy angle.

Anyway, it seems the once-per-season Vulcan """comedy""" episode is a convention now. Spock Amok was pretty good, Charades was crap, this was abominable, so on our current trajectory, season four's offering should be one for the ages.

How can the same writers who spend all day scouring Memory Alpha for the most miniscule shit to include and make flashy references to throwaway lines from sixty years ago be so crap at writing one of the main races in the whole setting.

Because they're wasting their time looking for easter eggs rather than writing a good script.

Quite right. Also some of these SNW episides are starting to make some of the worst TOS eps look downright good. When the puppet episode is released for sure it will make those episodes seem better. Lol

We've got precious few episodes to work with in this show. Less than even TOS and STE. They are going heavy handed on the comedy and Spock romance. TOS, TNG etc while having humorous or romantic moments or episides didnt lean this heavily into it all the time. They were shows that explored humanity through the aliens and phenomena they encountered in space. We are getting previous little of that now. The first season of this show was on the right track but they are straying further from it. I could honestly care less about Spocks love life at this point. They spent two seasons on the chapel romance and it was a waste of time because we know where the characters were in TOS. We knew in TOS that they never had a huge romance before it.
