"...an adventure to a genuine strange new world, complete with a strange new civilization." according to TrekMovie.com. No one knows what this episode is about, and if they do, they aren't telling us. No matter, we'll get to the bottom of this once the episode has aired and discussion gets going. There's been some mention of ruins, a mystery and a terrifying secret. That's trek at its core, so let's see how this one goes. Maybe something happens that's later followed up in TOS. A TNG tie-in is a stretch but that's a possibility too.

I thought Trekcore posted a bit of a synopsis and it gave me a Farscape's "Different Destinations" vibe. We'll see what the episode entails, but if it does have something to do with time travel, I said last week I would have liked another time travel episode. Hopefully I give it a better score than last week because I really want to give it a better score.

Time travel? We hates it!!! ;)

TrekCore:

In this week’s episode, filmmaker Beto Ortegas (Mynor Lüken) joins a landing party helping Dr. Roger Korby (Cillian O’Sullivan) explore an ancient archeological site, when (surprise!) not everything goes according to plan.

I'm not sure about this episode. It was an interesting story (Different Destinations it was not) but I felt it was kind of meandering at points. You had the stuff about getting out of the room on the Planet and Gamble being the alien entity on the ship and I feel like the stuff on the planet didn't go anywhere interesting. I did like the whole Vazda plotline and when you had Gamble and Marie fighting (Gorn and Vazda being ancient enemies?) it reminded me of Jake and Kira fighting in DS9's The Reckoning.

I gave this episode a 7, but it was bordering on 6, 7, and 8. I can safely say it was better than last week, and I did appreciate seeing the regular theme song again, as well as Palia. Her talk about good and evil and then shifting to Beto asking about the Camera was amusing. The ending gave off Conspiracy vibes and makes me wonder if we are going to revisit this plotline in the finale.

An interesting episode with the promise of more to come. Was also getting a bit of a Event Horrizon vibe from certain elements, namely the ensign. I'm sure I'll have more to say after sleeping on it, but I'll say it definitely fit the criteria of being a strange new world.

I quite liked the structure of this episode’s script, though it definitely felt more akin to Discovery’s penchant for serialized storytelling with the season arc setup there at the end for both the entity and how it fits with Batel’s arc.

Sad to see Nurse Gamble go, really liked his character, which is the point.

I liked seeing a new world and civilization here and the setup of this interdimensional prison. Kinda gave me TAS vibes.

Nice to see the production actually go outside for once! Though, unfortunately it was back to the same quarry they always use in Toronto. But hey, it’s modern Trek’s Bronson Caves.

Actually laughed at Pelia’s “you want another for the camera” line at the end.

Overall, a strong 8 for me, since this was more of a setup than a full story.

Bioengineering new eyes just like that 100 years before Geordi? Sedatives working on a dead brain?
But it was an interesting adventure and exploration story, even with Indy 3 invisible bridge :D
Could that being be a pah-wraith?

So they basically have their own Moriarty now. Need a show made 30 years from now called Pike so they can revive Vezda and have him show up as a cameo.

The puzzle felt too similar to Michael's Discovery puzzle in S5 and video gamey as well, but it was fine. Having a new ancient interdimensional threat is... I dunno. We already have Species 8472 or whatever they were called, the tentacle aliens from Picard, and now these guys.

Honestly I'm more interested in the Gorn Queen plot that they are clearly setting up now. I have no idea what they're planning and as a passive season-long arc, it's probably one of the better ones they've done.

It's the most "Trekky" episode they've done this season at least and it's a fairly solid one.

Hi BBSers,

As mentioned in previous episode threads, my family and I like to watch new Star Trek together, but I always check here first to make sure there isn't anything inappropriate for a 10YO (like heavy gore, or upsetting themes like child death- for calibration, the episodes we've skipped are 1.6 [child death], 1.9, 2.8 & 3.3 [distressing gore/themes]).

Could the good folks of the BBS please give me a (spoiler-free) heads up if there's anything too much for this ep- thanks!
