Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x05 - "Through the Lens of Time"

Hi BBSers,

As mentioned in previous episode threads, my family and I like to watch new Star Trek together, but I always check here first to make sure there isn't anything inappropriate for a 10YO (like heavy gore, or upsetting themes like child death- for calibration, the episodes we've skipped are 1.6 [child death], 1.9, 2.8 & 3.3 [distressing gore/themes]).

Could the good folks of the BBS please give me a (spoiler-free) heads up if there's anything too much for this ep- thanks!

This is not one for your ten year old. Graphic injury to eyes and blood, plus frequent views of the damage done. Also very disturbingly realistic pain and panic reaction from the injured character. Also features possession by murderous malevolent entity. Give it a pass until your child is older.

Watching it now...I see that Gamble went to the Prometheus School of Encountering Mysterious Alien Objects.

I am just at that point and am so-far liking the episode, feels a bit closer to what I want to see.

Isn't this kind of... sad? I can't think of any TOS episode that would cause this kind of hesitation, maybe one TNG (Conspiracy) nothing in the other series stand out, except maybe the DS9 episodes with heavier war themes?

I'm liking SNW, but that it gives this kind of hesitation is just, well, sad.

What is up with Batel? Last week, iirc, she was close to getting a commission as captain of another ship. Now, she is wearing civilian clothing and receiving medical care aboard the Enterprise. It has been at least six months since the events in Hegemony, Part II.

What is up with Batel? Last week, iirc, she was close to getting a commission as captain of another ship. Now, she is wearing civilian clothing and receiving medical care aboard the Enterprise. It has been at least six months since the events in Hegemony, Part II.

She experienced a medical setback in her treatment. Apparently, it set back her progress for months, and it does not look as if she's getting better.

Eh, a 7. Good enough episode but dov3 into horror/thriller aspects quickly after the discovery/exploration stuff. Sigh. I dunno, things aren't clicking like the first season did. Still good and all, but... I dunno.

A mix of Trek, Alien, Indian Jones and the Last Crusade, Mummy and Interstellar, all rolled into one.

Cinematography and special effects were really well done. Good enough for a movie.

They managed to add some humor in it, mostly Erika's brother. Pelia is scary by herself.

Of course the new guy dies, and he's not even wearing a red shirt.

All in all, I'm enjoying this season. You never know what episode is coming next. They are so different stylistically episode to episode.

I enjoyed that more than the last couple of weeks.

I particularly liked the way they had to solve the puzzle on different planes of existence.

I was beginning to think we'd never see Pelia again, then there she is!

An 8 anyway.

Felt like a real "It was okay I guess" kind of episode. It was fine, and I have no strong feelings one way or the other. Which is a step up from last week at least.

Ah, a good old-fashioned alien possession of the week story! Casualties--four.

Mariegorn! Slayer of Vezda parasites! My adoration for her has reached another level. She needs to team up with Pelia!

The cold open had me worried that this was going to be a long and boring relationship-based episode. Love triangles and lord knows what.

It actually turned into an atmospheric and well-paced story, if a bit brutal at times.

There were some very obvious concepts thrown in from a movie or two, but for the most part it was very engaging.

This is more like it! This is what I want from Star Trek. Mysteries, exploration, strange new worlds and civilisations. The best episode this season so far and also one of the better ones of the entire series.
