It's not publicized much but Star Wars DID lose quite a bit of fans due to the infamous reboot. It's Star Wars and Disney so they can take those blows and still make a profit. Star Trek is niche and can't risk losing fans due to a reboot. Besides Trek just HAD a reboot with the Kelvin film series that has now stalled.

My take is that they think the Kelvin series showed that unless it's Prime Universe there'll be no behinds in seats, so they megaphoned out that SNW is Prime, and then hung canon out to dry. At this point, IDGAF any more. They can (and obviously will) do what they want with canon. I just want the individual episodes to make sense and be entertaining, which this one was not... to me. The problem is that they seem to be just cherry-picking popular aspects of TOS/TNG/DS9 (at least thus far) and then writing stories about how it happened BEFORE TOS... I mean, it's just not clever or cute anymore. It's just TEDIOUS.

See, now, that I can get with. I've always felt that Cage Spock had a teeny tiny thing for Number One.
Yeah. In the cage I think number one and Spock glanced at each other in the briefing room. There has to be a whole story in that one glance. Someone call kurtzman. We have a great idea for a Spock/number one love story taken place a week before the cage. 😆

It's the same timeline.
Of course it is. But as Robert Anton Wilson put it, “What the seeker seeks, the prover proves.” (*) And so it has always been, and shall ever be.

(* Preemptive Anti-Pedantry Dept.: Yes, your search may have found a slight variation of that quote, or a different source. It seems to have been said a few different ways, both by RAW and by other people, and both before and after him. Principle remains.)

Have you ever read a fanfic? That's how they were born... the granddad of fanfic slash was based on the GLANCES betw Kirk/Spock, i.e., K/S fic.

I am absolutely 100% certain that we shall see some... glances. :adore::rommie::guffaw:
We've already got one from the preview images.

Look at how enamored he is with his Vulcan boyfriend.

I think I'm going to give this a 7.5 or 8.

Why?

Because I feel like this could have been a lot better without the murder mystery angle and a heavier focus on the behind the scenes of Fake Trek. Instead of a holodeck episode, this should have been a time travel one.

La'an and Spock have to prevent Gene Roddenberry from being killed by Romulans or something because it turns out that Zephram Cochran becomes a bikini bar owner if he doesn't become a fan of this show.

Something zany like that.

I loved it. A solid 8/10. I love murder mysteries, and I feel like this did the genre proud. I suspected something was off with Spock at the beginning, but I let that feeling go as the episode continued and was a little surprised at the end. I like seeing Uhura and Scotty working together, and I hope Scotty learned his lesson about asking for help. As for the ending and the new romantic ship we've seen, I have to say I'm into it. La'an and Spock have so much in common it makes sense, and I think they have great chemistry too. While I loved Spock/Chapel, I'm happy the show is moving beyond it and trying something fresh and unexpected.

Rebooting what? The EU? That was only ever a small percentage of overall Star Wars fans. I bet most moviegoers didn't even know it existed. And I love the EU.

The entire 2 hours of Clone Wars made lovingly by Genndy was wiped from canon. So were 2 Ewok movies and Droids and Ewoks cartoons.

T’Pring, Chapel and now La’an…man Spock got a lotta ass until Kirk showed up.

I thought the episode was fine. Nothing super special. Easily 3rd best so far only above Wedding Bell Blues.

Wesley does a pretty good Shatner. Shame he doesn’t quite bring that same energy to his Kirk.

I’m just not into another holodeck malfunction episode. At least it was more like “The Big Goodbye” and not some “Fist Full of Data’s” or “Spirit Folk” bullshit. And this is the first one since Voyager right? I can’t recall one in Lower Decks or Prodigy.

Does playing the offscreen director of the TOS stand in count towards Frakes series count? Or does it only count if he plays a member of the Riker family?

I continue to not be a big fan of this version of Scotty. They cast him too young. And the characterization doesn’t feel like he’s gonna be both the Chief Engineer and (very competent) 3rd in command in 5 years.

if this is the beginning of an actual Spock/La’an relationship and not just a “heat of the moment”/one night stand sorta thing…so what. Trying to think of any repercussions for Space Seed or TWOK just aren’t worth the brain drain. They put those two productions in a kinda weird place when they created La’an in the first place. If they want to have her and Spock be a thing..so be it.

Best part of the whole episode was the bloopers. Wesley trying to “do the Riker” killed me.

7/10
