I always liked Errand of Mercy because they have to have an external power say they're being stupid. Kor just wanted to fight as a proof of his strength and Kirk is convinced they're just wrong.

Not sure what complexity is there so I'm with how Klingons have variations of simplicity over complexity.
Well, I've detailed what I've thought of as more complex portrayals of the Klingons, particularly during TNG and DS9 earlier in this thread: differing internal politics, different classes, differing ideas of honor and how to achieve it. Obviously, we don't need to agree.

I will agree that the Organian intervention was fine given the nature of television at the time. I wouldn't be so enamored with it in a modern series.

I will agree that the Organian intervention was fine given the nature of television at the time. I wouldn't be so enamored with it in a modern series.
That's fair. I've seen both simplistic and complex throughout the various eras. I welcome the variety and any time I get Organian style intervention I'm all for it.

Yes, I do get that and I've stated that in this thread several times.

My point is that it portrays the Klingons as a simplistic monoculture that is easily manipulated. I mean really, they ALL need the exact same pandering to make the obvious smart choice? A bit simplistic. I also don't think the Klingons are that dumb.
It could be worse. They could all need the exact same pandering to make the obvious bad choice (see exiling Worf to keep Duras of all people; I don't care how powerful his house is, that dude obviously sucks).

Finally watched this the other night. Basically from the first 5 minutes, I was yelling at the screen to make it into a battle the klingons could win.

I would have liked Starfleet to actually attempt to hit the klingon ships with very low powered phasers instead of just aiming to miss, but I found it acceptable.
I'd give this a 6, but Robert Picardo's sheer presence bumps it up to 7.

Yeah, the solution was ridiculously obvious. Not only to us, but Ake herself dealt with and knows Klingons well, AND she has a half Klingon XO who obviously knows Klingon stuff, too. Never mind the 1,000 years of encounters, history, and knowledge accumulated about Klingons. The episode didn't make the officers look particularly bright.

To be fair, Thok's maternal GRANDparents left the Nomad Houses at least fifty years prior to the episode, so she's not necessarily going to be au fait with their culture, neither is Ake who's a good fifteen years out of date. Compared to Jay'Den who's got more or less current experience of their politics. Thok might be okay for generic Klingon culture.

General Angry Face literally told her that. "We will NOT accept charity. (But we will welcome a pretend fight to the death)"
