Star Trek Rotten Tomatoes Rating

Fuck IMDB users! I also have the pitchforks and torches ready for the first reviewer that gives it a bad rating!

Of course it won't last, there will be negative reviews, its a matter of time. Even the most critically acclaimed movies of all time get negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Its just that a streak of 30 positives on Rotten Tomatoes for a blockbuster movie doesn't happen very often at all. Its in the same league as Dark Knight here at the moment.

For the love of God man, the reviews and message boards are worthless. You need to learn to use IMDB just as a tool to research movies, actors and cast lists. Stay away from their juvenile reviews and even more juvenile message boards.

Agree. And if it stays up there with TDK, it'll probably be on my top 10 list. We'll see come Friday.

While I'll agree that IMDBs message boards are indeed juvenile, some of the reviews I've read are quite good. Others not.

Technically, Star Trek is ahead of The Dark Knight, which had an RT score of 94%. However, TDK also had 264 reviews vs. Trek's current count of 30. A more meaningful comparison at this point would be the Average Ratings: 8.5/10 for TDK vs. 8/10 for Star Trek.

Also, it's not impossible for movies to maintain 100% ratings on RT. Every movie in the All Time Best of Rotten Tomatoes top 100 list has a 100% rating. For example, Toy Story 2 did it with 125 fresh reviews and 0 rotten. With just 6 more positive reviews, Star Trek could move from #86 on that list to #48. Then again, with just 1 negative review, it would drop off the list entirely.

Thanks Vektor that puts it into perspective for me. I only look there a couple of times a year. BTW HUGE fan of your art man! Amazing stuff!

One article mentioned a sour grapes Trek fan over at some site called Trekspace.org, which I had never heard of before. So I went there and saw someone's post with the following highlights:

I can't help but feel a little sick at the gushing from supposedly foundational Star Trek fans about this flick. ... There was no stopping the crack addicts who were so giddy about this new sweet flavored improved Star Crack. ... Just remember this, New Coke fans. This new Trek is based on something original. Something better than it could ever hope to be. It was dreamt up by one man, not by a committee. I only hope that someday, someone comes along and wrenches it from you like they did from me. I hope you get that thrill of losing something you love. ... Paramount only owns the rights. We owned the legacy. Now it has been taken from us and we are banned from returning to that tall ship.
And I'm just thankful I'm not him. What a sad, pathetic way to go through life.

100 quatloos that man will be shedding tears of joy by the time the end credits roll.

Of course he'll be attending the 7pm Thursday showing, if he hasn't already seen it...in full uniform and makeup.

Hell, Casablanca is not even on the list. It has 2 rotten reviews out of 58, for 97 percent fresh.

It's enough to move even a Star Wars fan to tears.
Village Voice review

I just read all of todays reviews...they aren't reviews they are raves. I don't think anyone expected quite this much praise!!

A near-perfect template for what a summer thrill ride should be, Star Trek is great fun that doesn't forget its brain, heart or sense of humor.

Star Trek is destined to be remembered as one of 2009's biggest and best surprises, a gamble that beat both the house and those holding the cards to turn everyone into a winner.

Either you'll go with it or you won't. Regardless, based on Abrams' ambition and scope in rejuvenating the franchise, it's clear it still has plenty of room to live long and prosper.

It's exciting, moving, hilarious, action-packed, sexy and suspenseful -- in short, exactly what big, fun summer popcorn movies are supposed to be and yet so rarely are.

Thankfully, both diehard and casual observers of Gene Roddenberry's original 60's televised blueprint will be zapped with stimulating giddiness more effectively than an errant phaser gun gone wild.

A sublime space adventure that flies as confidently and triumphantly as Trek ever has before. It's not only a victorious series highlight, but perhaps one of the best pictures of the year...120 minutes of unrelenting goose bumps.

“Star Trek” is easily the summer tentpole movie by which all of 2009’s summer tentpole movies will be measured.

Ha, funny you should mention Casablanca! I just finished reading a review that compared it to Star Trek: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30586786/

Man, Trekspace is a scary place! It makes us look...I dunno, at least very relaxed and pretty unattached, by comparison.

Dennis, that in itself just scares the bejesus outta me to even think about!

Dude, me too! NEVER going there!

Well, maybe a sneak look after the movie's been out a week, it should be burning quite well by then. :D

^ Assuming my research skills led me to the correct answer, the guy who made those comments on Trekspace is a 51-year-old male from Louisiana.
