Star Trek Rotten Tomatoes Rating

Just to make things clear: Quite positive. I thought it was time Star Trek was rebooted even before Enterprise (series) aired. This movie has confirmed my opinion about that.

I've never been for a reboot per se. But alternate/changed timelines allow you to reboot without "technically" doing so.

My thinking was that for creative storytelling purposes they needed to leave behind the 40 year old continuity-canon that had built up. That's what I meant when I said Star Trek needed rebooting.
I never gave much thought to how that should actually come about. In fact I didn't really care so much if it happened at all. New Star Trek had disappointed me way too often over the last decade and I was fine with letting that go.
I had read basically nothing about this movie beforehand, decided to go to the cinema as a spur of the moment thing and found that I was watching a pretty good Star Trek movie. :)

Re: 96% on Rotten Tomatoes...

I don't know about the rest of you, but that's dang impressive for a Star Trek movie.....any movie for that matter! Yes I am a Trek fan but as a movie overall, I haven't seen anything that good since The Dark Knight. I hear a sequel has already been green-lit from Paramount. One thing's for certain, there is a very bright future for Star Trek! This also brings up an interesting conversation as far as a new TV series. Do you think a new series is a good possibility for the near future?

I just can't see a television series as sustainable based on the foundation this "movie" has created. To attract and keep the audience that this film has inspired would unsustainable. The pace is too frenetic.

Besides, if JJ Abrams were producing he'd be killing off characters left and right. I'd like nothing more than to be proven wrong but I can't see it happening.

If there's a new series with a new crew I wouldn't mind that as long as it's still got the positive vibes that this Star Trek movie had.
