Yes, sometimes the computer is kinda stupid. Remember with Burnham when she was trapped in the brig. Well, at first it protected her against being blown out in space but then the computer wouldn't let her go regardless of imminent death. You'd think a clever computer would think of a way to save the person in the brig when something like that happens.
The computers in Trek aren't smart AIs though, they really only respond to commands. The only smart AIs were some of the ones that Kirk overloaded by talking and Data and the later androids created after he died.

I know I'm not the target audience, but Kahless's balls, I really can't stand that purple prick. He wants to Starlord so hard, and all he does is channel all of the most obnoxious characters from '90s Nickelodeon. The thought of him in our faces as the protagonist for the entire series, not to mention hooking up with Gwyn, makes me violently ill.

I like everything else about the show, though.

HOW MANY ANDY'S DOES THIS EPISODE GET?

7

TakRok saying she wants to boldly go just felt over the top.
I know it's a slow build they're doing, I'm trying not to judge them too harshly for it.
They are laying the ground work to a brief history of Trek.
Janeway and her coffee are great.

I am looking forward to more alien interactions.
This one was just him flying the ship into a swirly thing in space [/RedDwarf]

Anti climatic.

Dal is getting a bit grating... but he IS a teen, and at least he's ameniable to being trained by Janeway.

Remember what Q's son was like when he first got to Voyager?

As for Dal getting it on with Gwyn... hm... I hope that doesn't happen.

That sort of reminded me of Aang (the last airbending avatar) with Katara.
Do they work as friends?
Definitely.
As a couple? Honestly, no.

The most I could see happening between the two of them is eventually a friendly relationship.
But that would be quite a ways down the road.

Dal's hormones may kick in during the series and he gets a teenage crush on her, but I really doubt that Gwen will ever see him as anything more than a friend.

Wish I could find the source of this observation as proof... Supposedly, when the series was being developed, Katara was to start seeing the pain and anguish in Zuko, the Fire Nation prince, realize he was pushed to his actions, forgive him and eventually grow to like him as a romantic interest. Aang, in turn, would have been one half of an "opposites attract" scenario with Toph being the other part of that equation. When and why the creators changed their minds, I don't know.

Except they do have the ability to create living holograms like Moriarty and later the EMH. Plus the Enterprise-D computers evolved into a living being and flew away at the end in "Emergence." We also see how things have advanced in "Picard." I think this new ship is way more advanced than many of the ships we have seen before.

My friend, I think those exponential developments will come even earlier than that. Try 2025. :)
way too early imho. Perhaps by 2050 but I’m not holding my breath: the research is really promising but so far it’s very theoretical.

Until things change I’ll keep living as if my time was limited to 100 years more or so.

the doctor seemed pretty smart to me.

yes, he’s quite annoying. I don’t think he’s necessarily going to hook up with Gwynn, though.

That would nice.

I think it's a safe bet they're doing an Ahsoka type of arc with Del. That is intentionally make him has annoying as possible and build that up to a crescendo and then have him completely fuck up. It makes people naturally emphasize with the character and easy to root for when they start to build him back up again.

*And this wasn't meant as another Star Wars comparison so much as Ahsoka is just the best example of the trope probably ever.
