Why bother then?? Dramatically it's just terrible writing, exactly the same thing Matalas has done all season. We see a scene, we scratch our heads, someone cracks a joke, we smile, and everything seems OK till we use our brain cells.
Q visiting Picard's son before he dies "later" adds complexity to his reasons for helping Picard move on from his childhood trauma.

Remmember how Q said to Guinan in the police station he'd see her again? How can he do that if it's already happened, and he's dying? Time isn't linear.

The last concert of a cover band.

I found little original in this episode, and I don't think there was much to make this stand apart from other finales within the franchise, save Turnabout Intruder. Even These are the Voyages had some charming moments when Riker interacted with the HoloCrew as Chef. The battle was a chaotic mess: just a bunch of shooting, not even the tactical thoughtfulness of Nemesis. An attack run out of Return of the Jedi. Seven claiming to have invented Arctus' transporter weapon. Etc.

I'm reading a lot of enthusiasm in these pages, but I don't think this finale, or this season, will hold up over time. Matalas spent a lot of time looking for ways of appeasing critics and appealing to fans' desires for wish fulfillment. Nothing was innovative. Nothing was challenging. Nothing was unique. There were more than a few good character interactions against the backdrop of mediocrity.

Loved seeing what a Captain LaForge would have been like.

OK everyone, I will apologize for my crabbiness this morning, as the disappointment after giving the benefit of the doubt mid-season to this show led to such great fannish disappointment.

I will stand by my statements as before on the show but not my statements that are borderline personal, I do regret them and ask for understanding and will endeavor not to delve into such territory again.

I think they made a mistake. The "One year later" was applied one scene too early. That scene at Fleet Museum was clearly supposed to take place shortly after the final mission.
Yeah, it was weird seeing Riker, Picard, and LaForge "One Year Later" and still dressed identically to the way they did before.

It made me think of The Blues Brothers.

"At least we got a change of clothes, sucker. You're wearing the same shit you had on three years ago." :)

I'm glad they played it safe considering when they don't, they've missed the mark spectacularly. Giving the TNG cast a proper send off with one last adventure was what we wanted and what we got in my opinion. No pointless deaths, everyone is mostly happy.

Thanks for owning that. Appreciated.

I'm gonna give is a 9. I really liked all of the stuff witht he OG crew, but I felt that renaming the Titan to Enterprise-G and Captain Seven was way too much.
Honestly it feels pretty disrespectful to the Titan name. Like, she had as much to do with helping save the Federation as the D did, and to just erase the namesake and rechristening it to the E-G just felt like a bit of a slap to the face of the Titan legacy.

Don't worry I guarantee the next trip to the 25tf century or beyond will have a ship or class called Shaw.

Well I thought that was great. They left a lot to do last week, but we got the big finale and plenty of closure too.

Can't really be arsed breaking it down because I can't wipe the smile off my face.

Perhaps it's just empty fan service, but this fan feels thoroughly serviced.
