I suppose I would have less of a problem with it if Will had talked more about the shift in his perspective from the time of "Nepenthe" to "The Next Generation." Even if it had only been something like, "You know, for years I really thought I'd come to a place of peace with my grief. But lately it's come back. I don't even really understand why. But I'm hurting, and I'm hurting Deanna." To me, the way it's been executed feels like it's undermining the place the emotional situation characters were in during "Nepenthe" rather than complicating it.
But that shift doesn't come naturally. At least not in my experience with talking it out. I could tell you when the shift in my thinking happened regarding my current living situation but I could not tell you how it happened. I could not articulate it in a way that would aid in understanding because it's not just "OH, for years I felt this but I didn't get it." There are some things that just are difficult to articulate.

Yep, I read that earlier post. That's what re-started the discussion about what year it was and whether Kestra would be old enough to go to SF (if it was even in her plans).

I think a throwaway line like "thank god she was away at SF", would have been perfectly fine, if she is in fact, away at SF. 2 seconds to answer what should be an important question.

Kestra at the Academy? That honestly never occurred to me.

I know we don't really know her that well, but from what we DID see, she doesn't seem like the Starfleet type.

Although people CAN change.

So you agree that it's Lore with the wrong memories?

Which get's around Data's suicide kick.

If by wrong, you mean not Lore's original memories, then yeah, I guess. But I would not say the memories were wrong. They were Data's good memories. Lore's "mind" took over the body but became a new version of "Data" when it accepted Data's memories.

odd, somehow I didn’t think she would be interested in joining.

Speaking as someone who works with kids who do get appointments to ROTC and, sometimes, to the service academies, some of whom could be described as creative people, Kestra going to Starfleet Academy makes no sense.

Well, to be fair, there are a LOT of different postings Kestra could achieve in Starfleet. She could be a counselor like her mom, a doctor, a starship commander, an engineer, a Marine (I suspect Kestra would make a formidable sniper and/or field medic), any number of things.

I mean, Kestra obviously would not let herself be pressured into joining Starfleet (and her parents would never do that anyway), but it's possible that she could just choose it on her own.

The actress herself is evidence of that. She looks way older now. Believable as a Starfleet Cadet agewise.

My OS is Windows 7 because I am a basic bitch.

I can delete and replace my porn, and I am still using the same OS.

Or I can Migrate my porn to a different computer that is using Windows 10 as it's OS.

It's still the same porn, but the picture is much crisper because it is a more perfect OS.

We are saying the same thing.

All I got out of that was 'crispy porn'... and all I can think about are legs, thighs, and breasts. Finger lickin' good.

At KFC.

If there's one thing that irritates me, it's the tendency of Star Trek to ignore the fact that there's an entire society in the Federation and that the are more things one can do with one's life than join Starfleet. I don't buy Kestra as a Starfleet officer. Obviously she could change, but I don't think the person we saw in "Nepenthe" would ever want to join Starfleet. And I think it's boring and uncreative to just assume she goes to the Academy like her parents.

That's one thing I liked about Jake and DS9. He had no interest in Starfleet and wanted to pursue a completely different career.

Jake said he never felt like Starfleet was for him. Whether that feeling was reinforced by his job with O'Brien, we don't know... but he did score lower in technical aptitude for his age group, according to Ben.
