Lol... I like MB, but she would have been better off not being used like this. I mean, even when Saru said to the Trill rep he'll be sending his medical officer and the symbiont to the surface (which was a good choice), Culber ends up asking MB to replace him (even though he listed 'life altering experiences' that he himself underwent as well - just because she spent a year more in the 32nd century though, doesn't make her the best to talk to 32nd century folk).

Culber also shifted to MB in this episode too.
Perhaps the problem lies with Culber. He is hardly immune to PTSD... and while he technically 'recovered' from his experiences... he was BARELY out of it by the time Disco jumped to the future... maybe the writers will touch on this at some point... but I think Nhan would have been better used to talk to dr. Attis.

MB could have been kept in the bg a bit more (at least on that front) and maybe even mention to the admiral the information she compiled in her year of being in the 32nd century about the Burn... perhaps SF had some more of those 'missing pieces' she mentioned.
I think maybe the problem is that Star Trek Discovery has accidentally outgrown the need for Burnham to be the main character, so we get circumstances where they have to keep shoehorning her in. Hopefully they find a better balance soon.

It was kinda weird how we see Adira during the first 10 minutes of the episode, and then she just up and vanishes.
Why? Characters come and go on this show all of the time. She was off being poked and prodded by Starfleet medical, as requested by Admiral Vance

Still, for Georgiou to be able to shut down the holograms with blinking... its a bit preposterous really. You'd think in 930 years, Starfleet would have removed that vulnerability.
Who says they know? The Empress is Terran.

It was a perfectly logical reason
Yep. Send the whole crew, they might never come back.

Also, with no indication of any civilian government that Admiral Vance answers to, has the Federation become a military junta?
Vance clearly states the Federation Government is also on the station.

Not seeing how it's any different that any other show, Trek or otherwise. I recently saw an episode of Voyager where Janeway takes a "field trip" with a trio of problem children from her crew.

I want to know what’s going on with creepy glasses guy’s weird interest in Filipa.

Good episode overall with the Barzan stuff, but I think they didn’t hit the attitude of the Federation guys quite right. Or rather, they did the obvious thing with being jerks at first then being won over. It felt really canned and Bermany. They also seemed kinda dumb and lacking creative thought. The only genuine ideas they have come from Discovery crew. They felt more like plot widgets than relatable characters, like ‘Aliens of the week’ except humans.

The only interesting character is the distortion bubble is the guy with more red flags than a Trump rally.

God, the scene at the end really got me on the Burnham × Saru monsterfucker train. I hope those two get to have a romantic angle, it'd be really fun.

I only found out later reading about the episode that this is acclaimed film director David Cronenberg. Apparently Star Trek must have some bizarre contest with Star Wars' Mandalorian about who can get the biggest director to guest star on their show (with Mandalorian featuring famed German director Werner Herzog).

Unlike Mandalorian where they were practically shouting "Werner Herzog's in this show!" in all their press material before the show even premiered (no doubt getting tons of Star Wars fans unfamiliar with cinema history to google why this guy is such a big deal), Cronenberg's appearance on Trek came with no press fanfare whatsoever, unless I missed something.

Voyager-J and other fun stuff
Not a lot of monologuing
Barzaan stuff was interesting
Interesting glasses guy
Not half bad an episode at all
Easily the best of the season
Solid 5

Yeah, that’s the problem, treating guest stars like story widgets and not making them human, interesting or relatable. The biggest problem in general with previous Trek generations or episodic Sci-fi in general.
I mean, I related but they should be at least be somewhat alien to the Discovery crew.

It absolutely happens elsewhere, but the mechanics of it is (IMO) currently being badly implemented on Discovery. It's not just that the last two eps have taken pains to make sure Michael is subbed in for someone arguable better suited for the situation, but both eps also took time to have characters tell Michael how extraordinary she is in some way. Some viewers (ie: me, and likely others though I cannot speak for them) find constant verbal reminders that someone should be elevated a tad grating. If she were the captain, would they keep bothering to do this? Or is it perhaps a by-product of her being the lead character but not the highest ranked in the room? It's not remotely a deal-breaker, but as I said...I hope they find a balance (from my perspective) soon.

I'm just getting besties.
It does seem that Owo and Detmer don't really talk to anyone other than each other though. That's why Detmer's slam against Stamets felt out of nowhere--she's had nothing to do with him before that dinner. I'm not even sure Culber and Burnham interacted in any significant way before he told her to go to Trill.

And Rhys, Bryce, and Nilsson just need to talk to someone, anyone, in a social manner (that isn't yes sir or aye captain) period.

I tend to agree though I'm mixed. I just watched a TNG episode and Picard needed Troi's help to understand that reading a treaty would help with negotiations.

Is it me, or does the peak of 350 Federation Members seem kinda small or does the UFP have strict Membership criteria?
In the JJ-Verse, by 2258, the UFP had 120 Members & 700 colonies

Because by 2373, the UFP has ≥ 150 Members & spread over 8,000 ly

Pre-Burn, the UFP had a peak of 350 Members, so that's ~ 3069.
