I've been away for a few days and just seen this episode.
I can't read 55 pages but I imagine I agree and disagree with all the usual people.

I was going to score this a 7 but I love Pike enough to bump it up to an 8.

Ansom Mount has been great this season and it's shame we're going to lose him from the show.

It seemed so obviously a trap from the moment they beamed onboard I am dissapointed Spock didn't point it out as such.

Hopefully we get some tie in to the Calypso short by seasons end.

What I wish would happen to Pike.

** Pine is depressed over what he sees in the future, but can't tell Spock, who has noticed his depression**

**Spock, touching fingers to Pike's face. "Forget."

There, solved.

That is perfect..... But then does the terrible thing have to happen, or will that upset the purists?

It's as if you think "entertainment" and "logical puzzle" are mutually exclusive categories.

Actually, I almost always do. Oh, I used to look at everything with a critical eye, spotting “logical flaws” left and right. It reached a point where I could barely enjoy any entertainment. A long conversation with a good friend who is both actor and writer made me realize that the bulk of entertainment is best enjoyed by looking for what it does right rather than what it gets wrong. How it makes me feel is more important than “puzzle solving” (unless that’s an explicit part of the entertainment). I care more about the performance and artistry than whether the story is logically consistent throughout. The result? I get far more pleasure out of entertainment than I used to.

What if it's just that once you leave Boreth, the memory begins to fade and is eventually forgotten?
Or perhaps one has to be in close approximate distance of the time crystal to retain the memory?

Pike's look on his face when first talking to L'Rell & Tyler could be interpreted as confusion as well as concern about the future.
I'm not sure that the Producers are going to leave the story with Pike retaining that knowledge.

On the other hand, Pike might believe that the idea of an immutable future is superstition and that it can be changed. That's my view. It's possibly subconsciously his. But, then again, maybe not. If he grew up with religion, he might believe in fate. Which takes us back to his understanding he'll eventually have to put his life on the line for the Greater Good.
Determinism is really not only a religious concept.

We know Georgiou was born in 2202 based on the Shenzhou library computer records that Voq was looking at after the Klingons boarded the ship. That would make her perhaps a decade older than Pike but not necessarily preclude the two attending the Academy at the same time.
^^^^
IDK - from the dialogue snippet it seemed inferred that Pike and Geogiou were in the same class or at least both Cadets around the same period (IE that would put Pike within 4 years of Georgiou's age give or take. Ten years difference seems a bit much.

It's a bit more than "might" ...

I like how The Queen demands and gets, a bowl of Ice Cream as soon as she arrives in the transporter room.
:techman:
(though Tilly might have actually brought it along on the way to greeting her friend)
Given this is in the discussion for a already available/streamed episode, I'd appreciate it if you use a 'spoiler' tag next time, as I'm trying to avoid even static photos from eps. that have yet to stream, and I don't expect them in a thread discussing a streamed episode.

My apologies, but the Thread already has a Spoiler tag on it and I wasn't the one who brought to subject up.

Maybe DSC will finally give us a canonical birth year for Pike. His viewscreen datafile readout gave us practically everything but his year of birth.

Perhaps the creators are leaving that vague for now and for reasons? Not necessarily a Pike series but possibly.

Year of birth and years at the Academy weren’t mentioned.

And it makes no sense to me Pike is pushing 70 when he has that accident, so I’ll wank Disco’s dialogue just as I do Mendez’s. If one can be ignored in favor of an age that makes sense so can the other.

**Spock, touching fingers to Pike's face. "You are a chicken."

There, solved.

SAY WHAT?

Note: quote edited to make me laugh. ;)

One would think so.

If Pike knew all along that there was going to be an accident on that cadet training ship, he would have taken steps to make sure it never happened. He'd order a new set of baffle plates to be installed so that one couldn't rupture and cause the radiation leak.

Maybe Pike ripped out a perfectly good baffle plate and the new one was defective, inadvertently causing the accident he was trying to prevent. :(
