Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 2x04 - "An Obol for Charon"

You'll like this then. Next month is the 20th Anniversary of TrekBBS. Even though we didn't have avatars until the end of 2002, I'm thinking about starting up a thread in Misc next month where anyone who agrees will have up old avatars of theirs from roughly the first five years of the board, meaning the first two years we had avatars. Just to celebrate the Old Days.

I've been lining up my old avatars. For the entire month I'll be rotating through a bunch of Peace Signs.

Or if anyone wasn't here back then, they can have avatars of pics from 1999-2004, just to get into the spirit.

 

I don't remember any of my old avatars. I used to change it all the time.

 

The oldest avatar I can remember was one of George W. Bush and Bill the Cat (both drawn by Berkeley Breathed) wearing sombreros when the board was sombrero crazy once upon a time.

 

We should bring back sombreros.

They never go out of style.

Contrary to my profile, I too remember this! Couldn't tell you what my username was, though.

 

Someone really needs to do a spinning DISCO sombrero GIF, with all the bells, whistles... lights ... Pez dispensers, etc. That's outside of my wheelhouse*, unfortunately, or I'd do it.

* Wheelhouse, get it?

 

I'm not going to lie, I've always felt that the lack of sombreros left an empty place of nostalgia in my heart from the old(er) days.

Fun fact: my phone autocorrected nostalgia to "Bowlestrek." Nothing is safe!

To stay slightly on topic, upon rewatch, Stamets has had two of my favorite scenes in the series now: dancing with Michael and singing with Tilly. Those moments really make me love him.

 

I can't help but feel that the Space Oddity lyrics are foreshadowing what's to come.

Taking "Calypso" into account, I think Version IV is likely with the Discovery and the Enterprise. If we look at the characters, I think the first version, with Tilly, is also likely.
