I know some folks aren't gung-ho on that particular storyline, but I'm curious to see whether or not Ash is going to fight who he truly is, or accept it and revert back to his old self. Right now, he's horrified, but that could change. Then there's his murder of Culber, which was crazy. I honestly have no idea where it's going to go.

Maybe it was the presence of Frakes, but this one really felt like Star Trek and they even tied it into the Defiant! Either we are seeing what the Defiant looks like in 2256 before a refit in the prime timeline, or a modified version of the Defiant from the Mirror Universe. TOS may be really old, but Enterprise was pretty recent, and the Defiant looked the same in that. Either way, an amazing episode!

Yes. This was something I disliked about the previous MU episodes that DSC nailed on the first try. We're looking at a serious take on the MU without a single drop of camp.

Yeah, I can forgive the camp in the TOS MU episode since TOS was a campy show by default. And I never found the MU as shown in DS9 to be all that scary. It was just mustache twirling villains. This episode is the first MU episode in all of Trek that genuinely depicts the MU as a scary place.

These people know their lives are forfeit if a single iota of truth gets out about where they're actually from. It's played perfectly.

What I find very creative is how we are seeing our crew having to pretend to be their MU dopplegangers, rather than just giving us an episode where we see the MU doubles, played by the same actors. As you alluded to, it adds an extra dimension of risk and drama since the stakes are high if our characters get caught. Also, this episode hints at the psychological toll that it will take on our characters since they will be forced to do horrific things, like murder and torture. When the Discovery does return to their universe, the characters will have to cope with the terrible actions that they were forced to take to survive.

Culber's death was the biggest surprise thus far of the entire series. Wilson Cruz did say earlier today on Instagram that after tonight's episode you'd never look at the relationship between Culber and Stamets the same way again.

Yea I’m thinking it’s the Defiant prior to the tos era Connie refit. (If you need that in your head cannon to sleep at night)

Although if it comes from the Klingon database in the Mirror Universe then that would likely be how the ship appears in that reality and not our universe. Was Lorca displaying an image from the Klingon datacore or the Discovery's library computer?

Well, that's a meaningless statement.

The regular posters in the STD forum already accept the controversial direction of the series, so it's not surprising all the STD eps score high 10s on here.

It's like preaching to the choir.

The bigger question is will STD do decent enough with general audiences to make it to Season 3.....
Piss off. I have given 7 and 8 to most episodes. This was a much better episode than anything they’ve done so far. Writing, acting, and directing were all much better than anything so far. As a regular posted I don’t blindly give every episode a 10.

Indeed. Previous incarnations of the MU felt like a Trekkian version of Hogan's Heroes with how scary it was. This, though. This? This was some tense stuff. When the crew were playing the part with the Captain of the Shenzhou on the bridge (as a hologram), I was nervous someone was going to do or say something to get them caught. I was almost sweating, so well done!

Agreed. There are going to be lasting repercussions from this. These characters will be altered. Their lives will never be the same. I can't wait to see how it grows from here.

Best part of the episode. Holy shit. I was dying. Love it.
Me too.
Still, she learned fast! Also, I loved Tilly before, but now I may be super in love with Tilly. ♥
