Oh yeah the female Terran officers don’t wear skimpy outfits, interesting.

Unless I missed it.

I am speechless. What an episode! Kudos to Jonathan Frakes for directing such a fantastic episode. WOW. I assumed that we were in the mirror universe but to actually see our crew change into their mirror universe counterparts, was amazing. The mirror universe uniforms are amazing. Tilly was badass. They kill the doctor! Burnham on the bridge of the mirror shenzhou with the crew saluting her. She kills the officer who was trying to kill her. Lorca in an agonizer booth. And those agonizer booths looked so scary. Ash is Voq. The Defiant. Just so many OMG moments! And the fact that we are going to get this mirror universe for several episodes with our crew masquerading as their evil dopplegangers makes it even better.
Yes. This was something I disliked about the previous MU episodes that DSC nailed on the first try. We're looking at a serious take on the MU without a single drop of camp. These people know their lives are forfeit if a single iota of truth gets out about where they're actually from. It's played perfectly.

Also, yes, kudos to Frakes for keeping this one on a tight leash.

Killing Culber shocked me quite a bit. Did not see that coming at all.
Agreed. I actually gasped out loud, a genuine reaction, because I adored Culber.

I wouldn't say it was surprising. I mean the two biggest unanswered questions seemed to have a consesus aming viewers weeks before the episode dropped. Tyler is Voq, they are in the mirror universe. And many have surmised our lorca is mirror lorca anyway and that may pan out as well.

Surprising or not, top friggin notch

That’s why I voted outstanding—it seems our theories were right, yet they’ve delivered so effectively I was blown away.

What the f**k did they do to the Defiant? Is nothing sacred?
Also, where is the midriff? It’s supposed to be a very male centric society that sexualises the females.

Loved the use of a laser cannon in this timeframe to cut through a a surface. The nods to "In A Mirror Darkly" on ENT. The restoration of the Empire's salute to the proper palms-out style seen in TOS. It wasn't a perfect episode but this was the best one yet.

You seem to be in the minority. This was my first 10 of the year.

Well, that's a meaningless statement.

The regular posters in the STD forum already accept the controversial direction of the series, so it's not surprising all the STD eps score high 10s on here.

It's like preaching to the choir.

The bigger question is will STD do decent enough with general audiences to make it to Season 3.....

I'm hoping it's the latter. Because if it's the former these producers are equally capable of delivering a great episode and being infuriatingly lazy and pandering to the "make it look cooler" crowd.
If they kept the Connie the same it wouldn’t fit with the rest of the show’s aesthetic

Whatever those things are two-thirds of the way up each nacelle strut on the Defiant 1764? Retrofits? Bad intel from Mirror'verse rebel database?

Would be cool if the Emperor is still Sato but I doubt that’s the case. It’s probably Georgio.
Also, they’re lucky their ships don’t have the yellow markings anymore.

Mind you it was a wire frame, but from that wireframe it was nearly identical
Exactly. Unless the hull ends up being hot pink, the ship will likely be 99% the same. Little changes don't bother me anyway, especially since we're in a mirror universe.

Also, two possibilites: the Terran Empire modified and experimented on the Defiant after Empress Sato delivered her back to Earth. The Imperial database doesn't have fully accurate renderings of some ships, much as how the bridge turbolift alcove and console displays on TOS often showed an Enterprise that was slightly stylized and based on early Matt Jefferies drawings of the ship with slightly different proportions. Either would work just fine.
