I liked it and will enjoy a second run-through later on. What I like most here is that we've shed all of the no-CBSAA whiners in favor of people actually watching the show.

I have no issue with it feeling a bit like BSG. After all, how many Trek-fans, after watching BSG were wishing that STAR TREK could have a face-lift like this. And just because this is a bit different, it doesn't erase the hundreds and hundreds of episodes that have gone before - and they're all still out there.

I'm intrigued and can't wait for next week.
Oh, no I can honestly say that while this episode was very good, CBS All Access is still a pile of antiquated technology. Once again, I had to forego the Roku on my nice, big TV and watch it via Microsoft Edge, and in 480p on my PC. The All Access app is awful, CBS' delivery method is atrocious. I wish Netflix had control over this, as there wouldn't be any issues, and I'd be seeing the episode in 1080p on my Roku.

8/10. Not perfect but I LOVE this episode! So good. Should have been the pilot. The main characters are actually interesting and good mystery!

The one complaint I have (which is a fear I’ve had for awhile is that

Lorc may be Section 31. Groan

like i posted above, a producer said in After Trek last week that third episode is the pilot, the first 2 were expositions.

A legacy of American Chinese food. Fortune cookies are not Chinese food.
Yes I know.

Looks pretty good on the CBS app for XBox. Playing the show on an iPad while plugged into HDMI, however, shows a shrunken picture on a big screen for some idiotic reason.

It picked up from the beginning but I still don't feel I know the cast. Trek pilots have often been underwhelming but they generally succeed in introducing the cast; so did the Orville pilot. We've had two prologue eps and the "real pilot" and I'm still waiting.

The captain is potentially interesting, but the other characters are still too much in Burnham's shadow. And way too much of characters praising her. If she's so awesome, show it! And explain how that fits with the first two eps.

Because this isn't a typical episodic show with a typical pilot. We'll get to know the cast over time. I hate typical pilots because they feel SOOO contrived, with little intros for each characters that are so transperently written to encapsulate a character in one scene, "Hi, I'm Tasha Yar and i'm the tough as nails security officer." "Hi, I'm B'Lana Torres and i'm a half Klingon engineer with a chip on her shoulder."

This is a breath of fresh air. Without those intros I still felt like I was meeting fully formed characters, even if I didn't know them yet.

Best episode yet. It was nice to finally see the Discovery and get a sense of what they are attempting. There are still plenty of mysteries left though.

On a side note, I tried watching it with Roku, but kept getting kicked out every 3 minutes or so. Had to watch it online. Anyone else have the same problem?

Once again, I had to reboot the Roku in order to get the episode to stream, but once I did I had no issues.

Not true, but it should have been the episode that was aired to the masses.

Yup.

I might have actually liked it more if I wasn't watching on a 15 inch screen.

Not me.

I think BSG is one of the most overrated pieces of shit in TV history.

Overrated, sure, but you can't deny it was well-written, had great actors and characters, and told an engaging story. Maybe it was overhyped, and maybe it wasn't your cup of tea, but it certainly raised the bar for televised sci-fi-- that cannot be denied.

happy to say CBS app works on Windows Phone too. That's a plus in my books.

It was well written until the beginning of the third season, where it fell completely off the rails and landed in the New York City sewer.

I could be mistaken, but was a Denobulan in the mess hall when Burnham first arrives aboard the Discovery? Right after the doors open there's a female(?) officer or crewman with makeup that appears to be Denobulan...ish.

Probably not, but hey...it would be nice if that were a bone thrown to the slightly older fans.

I'm guessing that the version of Discovery we first saw in the initial publicity/test animation was the original-specs look of the ship. What we're seeing in the actual series is the Lorca-specs rebuild.

The previous 2 episode were a nice set up for this one which is the real pilot

Love the Discovey design.

The room-mate is annoying but Captain Lorca is great.

So Captain Lorca has some vision issues which requires darkness, but I wish they would add a little more light.

Not sure how to feel sbout the organic warp travel. Have to see how it is going to be used. I guess it will help during the war but there will be issues with it so future starships wont use it.
