So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet personnel?

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

Look at Star Wars. Sure Carrie Fisher is hot and despite her character being a no nonsense ass kicker they managed to get her body into a metal bikini. But I think most people would agree that Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Admiral Ackbar are all extremely attractive men. So there's at least parity.

So you're a trout.

What, you never seen a guy who slept with a fish before?

I'd exclude Vulcans - they are sort of supposed to have fine figure in general and look certain way. That's why I quite do not buy the existence of Sybok, because it looks like they've glued pointy ears on some average older dude.

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

Last week in Star Trek Visions #5, John Byrne delivered an older (There was almost 15 years between the pilots.) (Pike's) #1 who was now a Commodore (with her own Star Ship) suited up in lime green, and trousers.

In one light you can say equality at last, equality at last, but on the other hand maybe they forced her to wear trousers because she is over 40 which is ageist on top of sexist.

But really, her ship, her rules. :)

YES!! That's what I wanted to see so much.
Well, I've never imagined Number One would wear the miniskirt uniform.

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

What annoys me the most with modern Trek is the need to keep the sexism of TOS alive, with female characters in tight/skimpy outfits surrounded by men in uniforms.

We get it they have boobs and slim waists! You can show that just as well in a uniform rather than a catsuit--Troi, Seven and T'Pol all proved they suited standard Starfleet uniform over all the hellish civvies they were forced to wear the rest of the time.

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

Well you have created a gender bias here by saying the unattractive women are few a far between, while also picking apart the male actors you find unattractive. Patrick Stewart was named "sexiest man alive" and yet he's on your ugly list. I'm not sure the women would agree with your list of who is hot or not, so it's going to become a gender debate.

Fine. You're right. I'm wrong and I suck. I made all the casting choices personally and made the most of the women with great bodies, big breasts and tight asses.

I'm sorry I've offended some people in the Trek crowd by pointing out the obvious real world issues that creep into the show. I forgot there's no room here to discuss the issues that play into the creation of the show and the motives behind them.

Mods lock the thread. Excuse my attempt to analyze ST as an actual creation by humans instead of sticking to the ST "World". Then we can all go back to pressing topics like whether phasers or disruptors are more effective or what Riker and Troi will name their first child.

Once again I forgot how clearly I try to explain my motives and evidence behind it that some people are unable to read or have a chip on their shoulder from something in their life and they're just daring someone to try in knock it off in here.

Lock it. Delete it. Go about your lives. Keep calm and carry on.

You really need to chill out.

Any time you start a thread, you open it up to discussion, including opposing viewpoints and criticism. It's how it works.

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

I have a problem with the Mirror universe uniforms for women, I must say they are my least favourite. I am not an easily freezing person, but I have cold-sensitive lower back, and feel cold just from looking at them. But men have to live in the same temperature, and are much more covered. So one or the other group in general must suffer from heat discomfort. And I wouldn't like to clench my abs all the time outside my quarters.

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

Kanye West?
Luca Brasi?

I was thinking of a line from an old Tom Hanks film, Splash, where John Candy is commenting on his brother, Hank's character, sleeping with a mermaid.

Pop culture gets a lot of heat, but sometimes you have to tip your hat. There's a line for just about every situation.

Ok, now I'm seeing Daryl Hannah and Ackbar. Thanks so much.

It's a trap!

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

Topic sounds like fan over think to me. The sexism is Hollywood's not Starfleet's. It is like saying Starfleet makes ships out of plywood and plastic or planets have Styrofoam rocks, because that's what we see. Though the sexism in casting is much more important than SFX limitation. Men are given more leeway in age and shape than women.

@guy Byrne was probably limited by the photo novel format and had to use shots of Number One from The Cage. His other choice would be to shop Majel's head on a different body.

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

I'd like to see the women's version of the officer's wrap-around tunic

I've wondered about that, too. Atish Khatami and Katherine Stano are two prominent female characters (the captain and executive officer of the Endeavour) from the Vanugard and Seekers novel series, and are often depicted as wearing the primary gold (green?) uniform top, although Stano often wears a skirt when on the bridge and switches to trousers for landing party duty.

I don't recall either wearing any other type of uniform variant--assuming such a thing exists.

I remember Khatami mentioning her luck to be able to choose between skirt and pants

On the other hand, in Trials-and-Tribble-ations Dax enjoyed wearing that miniskirt and hairstyle immensely.

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

In early TOS episodes there were some (two?) women wearing pants with something what looked like the standard female uniform tucked into them. One woman was zapped by Charlie X, the second one was in other episode, just walking by in the corridor.

And I enjoyed seeing Dax enjoying wearing that outfit!

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

Plus all this short-sleeve nonsense from NuUhura.
Especially in an era when rank was displayed on the cuffs--obviously they assume most women wouldn't hold a rank of significance (though given NuUhura's track record she'll bang an Admiral and use that to blackmail a promotion out of him).

Re: So how much does having a nice body impact female starfleet person

I've long preferred Hoshi over T'Pol. Yeah, we all have different tastes, but I considered her just more attractive.

Also, I think Hoshi was the first person, or at least the first woman, to score on the NX-01, so I applaud her sexual empowerment.

Hoshi was my fave too. T'pol just seemed too artificial, or maybe it's just because she never smiled.

While I agree about the sleeve ranking for the ladies in nuTrek, that comment about NuUhura is an oversimplification and kind of insulting.

Your accusation that Uhura slept her way to the top is more sexist than any thing else in this thread. And that's saying a lot. The scene only reads that way to those with various axes to grind. Most of whom aren't "good company".

The sleeve less version is variant. Hardly a comment on women's promotability.
