Sheen, "voluntarily enters rehab center"

I really think this probably ends with him returning to rehab and staying there for a long time.

I hope so, because, good God, the man needs it desperately. But, like with any addict, treatment is worthless unless he actually has an active desire to get and stay sober. He has the financial resources to get any level of help that he wants -- and he's got members of his family pulling for him. I just hope that at some point, he lets go of old friends, old places and old habits and gets himself into a better place.

Definitely. While some of what he's said lately has been kind of entertaining, this is a real person's life self-destructing very publicly, and he needs help.

It's impossible to tell how ready someone is for help, really, until after the fact. You'd be surprised (or maybe not) by how grandiose, self-centered and unrealistic many people behave even as they seek help - and yet it's really difficult to predict outcomes.

I know a number of folks who are living productive lives now who walked into treatment centers or court-ordered recovery meetings with their arms crossed and loudly telling people that "they" - most often employers or police but frequently family members - are convinced that a problem exists which the addict "knows" doesn't.

Again, it wasn't that many years ago that Robert Downey was considered a hopeless case by a lot of people (IIRC, the last time he was busted he was dragged off telling the cops "you're ruining my life!"). He seems to be doing well right now, which is absolutely no guarantee of where he'll be in the future.

And the extravaganza rolls on:
Charlie Sheen has just lost another close confidante, his long-time publicist, Stan Rosenfield.
Just hours after an interview with the controversial “Two-and-a-Half Men” star aired on the Today Show, and following a string of random radio interviews, Rosenfield, who also represents Robert DeNiro, George Clooney, Kelsey Grammer, and Morgan Freeman released a statement confirming that he had severed ties with Sheen.
“I have worked with Charlie Sheen for a long time and I care about him very much. However, at this time, I’m unable to work effectively as his publicist and have respectfully resigned,” he said in the statement.
After hearing the news, Sheen called Rosenfield a "p**sy."

Oops, missed that Dennis had already posted this.

Rehab won't do shit if the person themself doesn't realize the problem and wants to fight it.. which Sheen is a miles away from.

Rehab facilities, mostly those who have luxury and "celeb" status, are more like time out zones for celebrities to come down a bit after their publicist and family have convinced them they've really gone too far this time and need a step back.

Most however relapse within months (sometimes even weeks or days) so there's that.

He has been in "rehab" several times in the last year.

His dad is trying to find some legal way to force him into rehab, there is none.

He has said how awesome drugs are and that's why he loves them so much. He's more powerful than the drugs through, he is the best man on Earth, even though he is from Mars, so he doesn't need rehab.

A cousin of mine has been in rehab a few times, it hasn't worked yet. I'm hoping the latest several month prison term will help him kick it. The thing is with Sheen is he has the money, for now, that the cops won't press charges on him. He needs to get the cops to throw him in jail, jail will help him, and at this point his only chance.

And of course he is running out on money, crack isn't cheap!

Charlie Sheen should be knighted for his services to entertaining the world in these financially tough times, viz:

"I'm on drug; and it's called Charlie Sheen"

It doesn't get better than this.

Well, it's true what they say, it's tough to look away from a train wreck, even though you know you should...

Someone want to remind me again on why Charlie Sheen is one of the highest paid men on TV?
I actually think he's very talented (although, admittedly I've never watched Two and a Half Men, I'm not into sitcoms). It's just sad that he's going to throw it all away like this. There are great actors out there who would kill for his job/pay and this is how he treats it? It sucks.

That isn't necessarily true. Nearly two years ago, my wife and my best friend (and business partner) both went to the county courthouse and filed civil commitment papers, arguing in front of a judge that I was a danger to myself and needed to be ordered into the psych ward of a local hospital for detoxification and court-ordered treatment. After the judge signed the papers, they took me there. If they hadn't, the sheriff's department would have been ordered to take me from my home and put me in the hospital.

Granted, I relapsed after that (72-hour commitment, 75 hours of intensive outpatient treatment), because I wasn't ready to get clean, but I did finally get sober. The only thing that can get a person clean, though, is that person him / herself.

Dennis is right, though, that these could easily be the outbursts of a person who's desperately acting out in an effort to show control even as he knows he doesn't have it. It's hard to tell.

I just really hope that he gets help. The addict who still suffers is my brother, and my heart goes out to him, no matter how crazy he's acting.

^ Where do you live that that happens? It's almost impossible for that to happen in the USA, it's extremely rare. My cousin only went into rehab because he stole from his mother and she pressed charges.

However you do bring up the good point, if someone goes "He is a danger to me" there might be some way for him to get some help. However if it's only 72 hours all that will do is piss him off more and you don't want someone who is so nuts to be even more pissed off at you.

I was living in Iowa at the time. The judge ordered that I be committed for 72 hours, for detoxification and evaluation, and also that I follow the program assigned to me by the treatment center within the hospital. So when the psychiatrist said, "75 hours of IOP," that had the force of a legal ruling.

I like him but who cares what he does? He has issues, he doesn't want help, let the man be. He's been to the hospital, he still doesn't care, whatever. Pushing people who don't want any help wont do anything but make things worse.

I gotta say, as batshit insane and hilarious as this whole ordeal is, even though I don't agree with him I can see where he's coming from.

His boss makes a joke about him, which he initially takes in good stead. He then shows up too work, nobody is there, then his boss makes a much deeper joke about him dying, and then he gets really pissed and goes off the deep end.

I havent come anywhere close to drugs in my life, but assuming they amplify aspects of your personality? I've had close friends turn on me in an instant, and it hurts, and in that moment there was nothing more I wanted to do than to hurt them as bad as I possibly could. And this is what I think Charlie is doing.

I doubt him and Chuck were "close" friends, but there had to be some mutual respect there judging from the initial lighthearted banter between the two which Lorre's "he's dead inside" vanity card broke. Sheen perceived that and the shutting down of the show as a stab in the back, and so he's hitting out as hard as he possibly can by getting the show canceled and suing for more money.

I still think he's batshit insane judging from the comedic gold that was the 20/20 trailer, but I just think from his perspective he has some grounds for that insanity.

Sheen didn't show up to work with nobody there. He says he's going to show up on the set tomorrow (or maybe he already did, it's hard to tell with his rapid-fire madness) even though the show is shut down, as though that's a statement to the producers that he's ready to work and they're preventing him from doing so.

I read somewhere a week or two a go that he had turned up to work, it was initially after he got out of rehab and he phoned some radio show from the set?

I just checked out Sheen's IMDB and Wikipedia pages - the Wikipedia page currently includes this paragraph:

Sources close to Mr Sheen have confirmed that he has adopted two 3 year old King Penguins that he named Otto and Rico. He became enamored with the web footed tuxedos after viewing the Madagascar movie series. At this point the Penguins are his sole confidants ( it is said he does not trust anyone but Otto and Rico). "Loose lips sink careers". Sheen claims. "These two guys keep all my secrets I think they really love me".

Uh-oh. He's starting to go Michael Jackson on us. Let's hope he doesn't start sleeping with ten-year-old boys.

. . . I havent come anywhere close to drugs in my life, but assuming they amplify aspects of your personality?
To quote Bill Cosby: "Yeah, but what if you're an asshole?"

Yeah they canceled 4 episodes for his rehab, he came to work a week early and no one was there, and that's when the interview madness started. I don't think Sheen even knew of the creator's blog when he started doing the weird interviews.

And the creator is right, there is a good chance he will end up dying, I will bet anyone here $10,000 that Sheen will end up dead.

And why we like it? It's funny what he says!
