Sheen, "voluntarily enters rehab center"

I think the first show that Charlie phoned into was the Dan Patrick show. That was from the set of the series. Then everything else kind of happened after that.

Pushing people who don't want any help wont do anything but make things worse.

That's not true. Sometimes it saves their lives. Sometimes it doesn't. Nothing is certain, but it's true that leaving people who are dying alone to die on the premise that they "have to want help" far, far more frequently "makes things worse."

And no, drugs don't "just amplify the personality." Impulsive behavior resulting from drug-affected emotions and impaired reasoning don't reveal anything essential about the inner person.

Charlie is on a big roll these days, taking the offensive in the press and showing us just how crazy he is.

"Sheen boasted about his "epic" partying, said he's fueled by "violent hatred" of his bosses, said he cleaned up from drugs at home at his "Sober Valley Lodge" and said he's "tired of pretending I'm not a total, bitchin' rock star from Mars."

A Total Bitchin' Rock Star From Mars.

I want that on my tombstone....

If it will fit, that's my new user title.

Fair enough. I'll have to use another great quote for mine.

:techman:

I'm in on this. :D

I read somewhere a week or two a go that he had turned up to work, it was initially after he got out of rehab and he phoned some radio show from the set?

Yeah he showed up on set but no one was there. He was wondering "Where is everyone? I'm ready to work"

Maybe there is some hope...

On Morgan, Sheen said that he would apologize to CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves and seemed to shrug off his earlier demand for a Two and a Half Men salary raise to $3 million per episode. “That was stupid,” he said.

Smartest thing he has ever said!

“It would be nice if there was some measure of support from anybody at this point,” Sheen said.

And here we meet the Depressive phase.

Exactly what I was thinking. I've obviously never met him but there's a lot pointing to a manic episode here the past few days.

Chuck Lorre has "responded" to Sheen with a vanity card:

I understand that I'm under a lot of pressure to respond to certain statements made about me recently. The following are my uncensored thoughts. I hope this will put an end to any further speculation.

I believe that consciousness creates the illusion of individuation, the false feeling of being separate. In other words, I am aware, ergo I am alone. I further believe that this existential misunderstanding is the prime motivating force for the neurotic compulsion to blot out consciousness. This explains the paradox of our culture, which celebrates the ego while simultaneously promoting its evisceration with drugs and alcohol. It also clarifies our deep-seated fear of monolithic, one-minded systems like communism, religious fundamentalism, zombies and invaders from Mars. Each one is a dark echo of an oceanic state of unifying transcendence from which consciousness must, by nature, flee. The Fall from Grace is, in fact, a Sprint from Grace. Or perhaps more accurately, "Screw Grace, I am so outta here!"

Sadly, this makes more sense than anything Charlie Sheen has said in weeks.

It's impossible to really diagnose him though. I mean, we don't really know his normal baseline, we don't know what drugs he's been taking, and we don't really have the evidence. It's entirely possible he's had a (hypo)manic episode, either drug-induced or not, but frankly, I wouldn't want to even get close to trying to diagnose him from interviews and gossip.

Much more fun - and safer - to reduce the situation to entertainment value instead. :D

(although, if I were in PR, I would definitely be advising Sheen to claim this has all been mental disorder; it's a perfect cover story)

 I read it and I thought "Jesus Christ he's more around the bend than Charlie is!"

I think he stretches the point about communism, etc but he's doing so deliberately in order to get to the "zombies and Martians" delusional gag. "Consciousness creates the illusion of individuation," I understand; it relates to the "non-existence of self" in Zen.

 That was...interesting. My assumption is that he's making fun of Sheen by saying the wackiest things he could come up with. I particularly like the "screw grace, I am so outta here".
