Season 4 First Look

Now I'm wondering how the hell they're going to explain this in the episode.

I'm not against the idea of puppet episodes, Angel did it pretty well and I think Legends of Tomorrow did a couple of stories, but how the hell do they explain it in Star Trek?

Is the prototype holodeck malfunctioning and creating puppets?
Have they been drinking the Orion delaq again?
Is it a dream sequence?
Are they animatronics created by an alien theme park?

The deuterium flow from the aft nacelle resonated with the transport buffers mid transport that, together with the high frequency gamma rays from a nearby pulsar mixed the transporter signal with a simultaneous transport signal from a nearby quantum reality creating new physical bodies for our heroes.

Happy?

ETA: If this, or something very similar like this, turns out to be the case, I WILL be made Uber Admin of this forum. No questions asked.

If they just make puppet-style episode, like Lower Decks was an animated series, that could work. Just a different visual interpretation of the series.

Oh, I just remembered a third puppet episode. Stargate SG-1 did it.

I really wish the creators of SNW realized that Star Trek is not - or at least shouldn't be - a sitcom.

I don't know why they're leaning into the goofy stuff so much. The most creatively successful episodes and elements of SNW have been the dramatic ones: Pike dealing with the knowledge of his future, Pike's speech at the end of the pilot, Number One going on trial for being genetically enhanced, M'Benga's PTSD.

"Those Old Scientists" and the musical episode were fun one-offs (Although my opinion of the musical ep has definitely lowered in the last couple of years), but the worst episodes of SNW have been the goofy ones like "The Elysian Kingdom," "Spock Amok," and "Charades." I don't have high hopes for next week's "A Space Adventure Hour," either. Why are they doubling down on the stuff that doesn't work for the show?

Well they're making a certain kind of series, which is fine. They are staking out their own unique corner of the ST franchise. It's not what I watch Star Trek for, which - by the way - is also fine - there are TONS of hours of Star Trek for me to enjoy. If this wasn't a series about the Enterprise before Kirk, I probably would have dropped it a lot sooner.

I certainly don't begrudge or criticize anyone who really likes this sort of thing. I like a lot of shows people would think are pretty stupid. But if there was a shark this series could jump over that it hasn't already, this is certainly it. The "Great Vegetable Rebellion" of SNW: enjoyable in its own way, but not really what got me to like the series when it started.

Star Trek was always fun for me without having to do this kinda thing. That's why 4 year old me fell in love with the original series. Was it high concept? Sure, plenty of times. Was it silly? Sometimes, absolutely. But Muppets are way over the line for me. I respect all y'all's opinions and whatnot, but the writing is on the wall for me and this series.

It's a single episode, it's not like every episode of the series is like that. Just skip it.

Pike: If I stay a muppet, that means I can't get irradiated and put into a wheelchair. But if I stay a muppet, will that still doom the Fed to a Romulan war and Spock getting crippled?
