What is your opinion of season 3 as a whole?

Why must you hurt me like this?

It mostly stunk....I like a couple episodes. But I will never rewatch any of this season again...

Yeah it was a bad season. They really gave us a terrible story with Trelane abd made him a Q. They ruined the original by having the SNW crew meet Trelane before Kirk. They just cant leave TOS alone.

And since Trelane didn't appear as WE the audience saw him (he was under the guise of, I believe, an Andorian wedding planner) the crew would never have realized who he really was, and after Trelane's father came to get and discipline him it seems the crew's memories were altered or, at best, incomplete.

Was it hamfisted? Sure. Is it irreconcilable with continuity? Not really.

Still. It bothered me. Also it just wasnt a good story in my opinion.

No. But kirk wasnt the first to encounter him. The SNW crew did. Also they seemed not amazed at all that they met a god like being.
That's the objection? That's some high level bullshit right there. They already had encountered the Thasians, and an evolving Gary Mitchell. That hardly ruins anything. Godlike beings are treated pretty casually in Star Trek.

Look up the word "ruined" and tell me how not being a good story fits that.

I wasn't crazy about that episode (Rhys Darby's fun performance aside), but it doesn't grossly violate the continuity.
No, it wasn't an enjoyable story. And you know what I call that? Not a good story.

i thought the second half of the season was stronger than the first . I feel the season relied way too heavily on comedic and gimmicky episodes. None of the comedy landed for me this season .

The problem is, there's only ten episodes. DS9 could get away with goofy Ferengi comedies, or wacky holodeck baseball episodes because they had 26 episodes. The comedies were a welcome relief from the usual dark tone of the show.

Perhaps the caper episodes of SNW wouldn't sting so bad, if there were longer seasons. As it stands, though, like a third of the season is wasted on throwaway episodes.

There were some highlights, mainly in the second half of the season. I thought Through the lens of Time, The Sehlat that Ate its Tail, What is Starfleet , Terrarium, and the finale , were all good.

Tell this to a company that thought 10 episodes was also enough for Frasier...

The 10 episide limit is getting tiring. Its shows writers can't handle even a 20 ep. season. SNW had 10 episodes and they needed trelane and the metrons. They really couldn't come up with 10 fresh unique episodes? I was half expecting the writers to have the Enterprise meet the Doomsday Machine or its little brother. Lol.

Also I really liked fraiser and if they did more episodes they would have had more chatacter development. 20 episodes in 2 seasons for a sitcom is terrible. Back in the day it was near 30 eps per season.

It felt for me like seasons 12 and 13, it was such an organic return in my opinion.

Yeah it needed more to really develop the characters and since it was telling a story over an actual year 10 episodes for it just made no sense. It can't have been that expensive to produce considering it was filmed in front of a live audience, unless Kelsey Grammer took such a payday for himself that there was no money left to make a show.

It is ironic it became a ratings success after getting cancelled. But Paramount seem to want to have their cake and eat it but forgot to buy themselves a cake.

Totally agree. Once Roz was brought back in I think the show was poised to really take off. Also guest spots for Cheers alumni was being planned. Sadly George Wendt passed away so that one will never happen. Would have been great for Norm to walk into Mahoneys and everyone say Norm! Lol

It was a show that mimicked the story formulas of the original, but the writing lacked any fire or real wit. A mid sitcom at best, not even on a par with Just Shoot Me.

I really miss Frasier 2. Not getting to see Alan and David together anymore makes me sad. And I miss Olivia. And Freddy. Honestly my least favorite character was Frasier. And I like Frasier.

I should have watched the season 1 Christmas episode during the season. "You're missing the florist for the trees!"

You know who I don't miss? Trelane!

Don't say that to my wife. She adored Just Shoot Me.
