Well, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The problem is: it wasn't very good either.
The new cast is kinda meh. I enjoyed Drew's character although admittedly I thought at first he was just going to be Cox, Jr. The scene at the end of the second episode with him singing with Turk and J.D. was fun... but my DVR skipped over the last few seconds so did I miss anything? Honestly, they need a better actress for Lucy. She's a very cute girl but she just doesn't have the chops to be the lead. Oh, and I mince no words when I say: Unless there are some serious changes, Cole has to go. Most annoying character ever. Still, I have hope that Bill Lawrence and his producers will be able to add some depth to him in a few weeks.
The best parts were definitely the bits with the old cast: J.D. and Elliott at the beginning, any scene with Turk and J.D., some of the bits with Cox and Drew, the scene with Kelso and Cole's mom at the end, the Janitor bit, the Todd showing up.
But, still it feels like just an empty shell of what it once was. I'm patient, particularly with shows I've been watching for awhile. As there are only 13 episodes this season, I will give it that many to impress me and then I'll make a judgment. I think a big hurdle will come Wednesday, December 9th, when the overnights come back for next week's episode... but that's not as big of a hurdle as when Zach Braff finishes his six episodes. That will be very telling.
