Scrubs: Season Nine

Well, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The problem is: it wasn't very good either.

The new cast is kinda meh. I enjoyed Drew's character although admittedly I thought at first he was just going to be Cox, Jr. The scene at the end of the second episode with him singing with Turk and J.D. was fun... but my DVR skipped over the last few seconds so did I miss anything? Honestly, they need a better actress for Lucy. She's a very cute girl but she just doesn't have the chops to be the lead. Oh, and I mince no words when I say: Unless there are some serious changes, Cole has to go. Most annoying character ever. Still, I have hope that Bill Lawrence and his producers will be able to add some depth to him in a few weeks.

The best parts were definitely the bits with the old cast: J.D. and Elliott at the beginning, any scene with Turk and J.D., some of the bits with Cox and Drew, the scene with Kelso and Cole's mom at the end, the Janitor bit, the Todd showing up.

But, still it feels like just an empty shell of what it once was. I'm patient, particularly with shows I've been watching for awhile. As there are only 13 episodes this season, I will give it that many to impress me and then I'll make a judgment. I think a big hurdle will come Wednesday, December 9th, when the overnights come back for next week's episode... but that's not as big of a hurdle as when Zach Braff finishes his six episodes. That will be very telling.

They should have had 'Jo' (don't know her real name on the show, just her nickname from last year) be the main character. She could have swung it.

The Cole seems like a total copy of the Aziz Ansari intern from last year minus the funny actor.

I missed the first 15 minutes. For some reason my cable box malfunctioned.
I didn't like what I saw. I probably won't watch any more of this season. I'll just stick with the older episodes.

I haven't seen it yet, but the whole thing just screams After M*A*S*H to me.

I've watched all but an ep or two of S5 and I've pretty well closed the book on the show myself. It's nice to know that necessity forced them to introduce some new characters at some point, but they should have done so long ago. I'm sick of seeing the same five or six characters spin through the same stories over and over.

I think Scrubs strong point was that it followed the same characters for so long. I was kind of disappointed when they started rotating through some random characters last season.

Anything with Cox, JD, or Turk is still comedy gold. Sorely missed are The Janitor, Jordan, and Ted. Todd's scenes were still hilarious.

I hate this Cole character.

Also, very cool to see John Billingsley (who is in everything now) and the Miller High Life guy.

I really wished this would of been a spinoff because Scrubs 1-8 is my favourite sticom of all time. The humor and charcters are gold and that finale was such a nice touch.

What difference does it make if it's a spinoff or not?

I don't know why they aren't showing it already, did ABC already lose faith in it? It's a dumb time of the year to show episodes.

Seems like a burn off at this point. Then again, it's all reruns now, so maybe would be more willing to turn in.

The only thing I don't get is that they already had a new cheery doctor/intern last year, so it seems strange that they'd recast/recreate that character when the brought back... Mahoney or whatever her name is.

Oh well, I don't mind it. JD 2.0 is fine for what she is, and given that it's a short season, she won't have a chance to be extremely annoying with her self-doubt.

And hey, they do subtitle the show "Med School" for all you haters out there.

The winter weather can boost ratings making people stay in doors but still a very funny time to debut a season. I hope its really good because I would like to think of it as Scrubs and not Scrubs Lite :p.

Most likely the ratings will be around 5 million range & 2.2 demo with good DVR numbers like last season.

4.24 million viewers, did they even show ads for the new season/show?

I think I read somewhere that they wanted the other character back but the actress had other things lined up or something like that.

I thought it was OK. Not as good as the old show, but passably funny.

Yeah, that makes sense. It's too bad, because they already had an in... and instead they just cloned the character.

Hell, it might have been interesting if they could have promoted the Indian intern to series regular, because she annoyingly unsure of herself and naive as well... but you probably can't anchor a show with an Indian girl in America.

Just watched it and its nice to see Scrubs back, I do love the humor the show has always styled in. JD/Turk moments are 100% gold I could never get bored of those two and nice to see J.D help pass the torch over though I expect he will be gone by next week so that will be the test of season 9 can the show survive with no JD.

Still it does feel like a spinoff more than a 9th season and I still wish it would of gone that way because if the new take on the show ends up being a riot then it would be sad to see it canned after this season due to low ratings and the words spinoff season 1 is likely to attract a bigger audeience to check it out rather than season 9.

Scrubs was losing viewers ever since season 5 and a spinoff with a fresh start not a semi fresh start mixed with season 9 might of peaked more interest (its the SG-1 Ori story syndrome). One last thing COLE is a horrible character he is not anti nice like Cox or the Janitor was and early Kelso...just horrible :scream:

Cole needs re tooling or dumping.

Well, they had the Indian dude who was a genius but didn't actually do any studying and they washed him out... and he was around for several episodes. It could be the same case with the silver spoon guy.

Well the premiere wasn't as bad as I expected, but keep in mind the show is REALLY going to only star Turk and Dr Cox. The real test will be when J.D. goes away and we never see Elliot and the Janitor again. And HEY! Where is Ted my favorite character?!?!

I don't think anyone would have watched a new spinoff anyways, ABC doesn't care about this show, they care about more episodes being sold in returnland. Were there even any ads for Scrubs returning at this stupid date? ABC figured "We have a show we can get some more money out of like 'According to Jim' and in case our new comedies fail we have a replacement". The new comedies did really well, besides Hank, and now they seem to be burning off the Scrubs episodes because they don't need them now anyways.

i was SHOCKED when i looked at the channel listings to see this was coming on last nite, i didnt see any press for it!

it wasnt as good as it used to be, but hey, i'ts still watchable

I loved that guy, and went to school with guy who just like him (even to the point of skipping important stuff to buy Little Caesar's), probably weighed about the same too. Everyone hated how easy it came to him too.
