New SGU Trailer *MAJOR SPOILERS*

I don't think there is anything wrong with the old shooting style, I think what was wrong was the characters, the stories, the arcs, and the lack of any real direction in every part of the story. Atlantis was being played for years and years before the show started and it was clear they had no real plan, that has nothing to do about who is directing and episode.

Directors, have not been the source of the franchise' ills, unfortunately.

I don't know about that, both Martin Wood and Peter Deluise have been missed IMO.

Martin Wood has been missed, certainly, he always did excellent work.

Peter DeLuise's work is over-rated IMO. And I'll never forget that pathetic bleeped out swearing rant he did at the end of 200 was it?

The director of Photography for The Wire, Rohn Schmidt, did the pilot.

They are definitely trying to shoot for a new...shooting style.

The Wire looks about as different as you can get from Battlestar Galactica, so that's interesting news. He's definitely a worthy cinematographer. Anything from the boring camerawork and lighting that has afflicted the series for far too long.

And I don't think Deluise's work as an actor has much to do with his work as a writer and director on Stargate. I've mostly enjoyed his material, including his grasp on the show's comedic elements.

Martin Wood has been missed, certainly, he always did excellent work.

I didn't know he left.

The directing of the SG shows seemed to be very standard. The thing I liked of Wood's was his use of the long steady cam shots. He seemed to like to use them in big episodes (such as season openers) and it opened Continuum.

I know not everyone liked them, but I thought they were cool (my favorite one being in "Into the Fire" where we start in the Stargate and then follow Peacemaker running around the SGC trying to find General Hammond).

Peter DeLuise's work is over-rated IMO.

Outside of the occasional use of steady cam shots (or if the director cameo was that noticeable), I could never really tell between Wood's episodes or DeLuise's episodes.

Wood's episodes always have big crane shots in them.

He's working on Sanctuary now.

The director of Photography for The Wire, Rohn Schmidt, did the pilot.

They are definitely trying to shoot for a new...shooting style.

Ronn Schmidt wasn't the DP on "The Wire". He was the DP on "The Shield" which was shot in documentary stil.

^^
Ah, you're right. That makes more sense given the camera style we've seen in the trailers for this. It was an easy enough mistake to make though. Both highly praised police dramas airing alongside each other with pilots and finales directed by Clark Johnson.

What has nuBSG done? Now for sci-fi t be taken seriously it has to be all dark and gray have camerapeople with acute Parkinson's Disease? Though the SG franchise had its faults, one thing it could be said that it had a sense of humor about itself. When things got too dour, you had ol' Jack O'Neil or John Sheppard to deflate the tension and bring a little levity. I think SG devotees are going to expect that with this. What if it doesn't happen? I doubt fat nerd (i.e. the stand in for us) can fill that role(as a Star Wars fan, I rolled my eyes when he made the Hoth reference). That may drive away the SG fans. And those who are left, the ones who miss BSG may find it doesn't have the recommended amount of darkness and will switch it off. Don't get me wrong, I'll check it out and I hope it does well, but from a first impression, it looks like they are trying to please to many people and may end up pleasing no one.

Just my two Republic credits.
