New SGU Trailer *MAJOR SPOILERS*

I'm not sure where I stand with the trailer. I mean, it does *look* good... but then you put it into context with the rest of SG and it seems somewhat silly. It's like the opposite of that "200" bit with the "young SG-1". Rather than have hot young people having sex and blowing shit up, you have hot older people having sex and blowing shit up.

Then again, there's really no science fiction left on American TV... so, what the hell.

Trailers can make anything look good. It was a very well put-together trailer that did indeed look awesome, but I have a bad feeling the series could end up being quite dull and repetitive. We'll see

Action looks okay but can't say that any of the characters grabbed me in the trailer. Hopefully once the show gets going I'll find some of the characters interesting.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, just saw the trailer for the first time and this thread (been away for a few weeks).

The ship looks like a Cardassian design, I get that kinda vibe from the looks of it on the outside.

RDA sure has put on a few pounds.

This show actually looks rather interesting, my hopes are up, certainly higher now than they were before, the trailer makes it look good, we'll see what the execution is of course.

I'm interested, can't wait to watch it.

I like the trailer, but time will tell how I like the show itself.

The ship has a vaguely Necron-ish (from Battlefleet Gothic) feel, and kind of looks as if it was an unintended (from the Ancient's perspective, at least) design inspiration for the Wraith when they started to grow their first Cruisers and Hive Ships.

It really does seem like the pilot will be aimed at viewers who aren't already into Stargate, in terms of using Eli as a window into what the Tau'ri are up to in 2009. Whether that works is something that, again, time will tell.

I'm looking forward to it, though!

Looks good. I'm looking forward to it. They filmed at least portions of one of their episodes near Alamagordo, NM (probably at white sands or Holloman AFB) I think.

Eh?

Oh, space shows. That's true. My favorite sci-fi on tv and in a long while (probably since Firefly went off the air) is Fringe.

I enjoy Fringe... but, conspiracy this, corporation that... it's very samey.

Hell, even SG-1 dipped into that themselves.

A darker more character driven serialized Stargate? I'm totally onboard with that concept. But I still have doubts that the writing staff are bringing enough originality to the show. Particularly when I keep hearing about SG-1 and SGA crossovers and what not.

Totally agree..they need to beyond what they did before, and THAT will not be easy to do...

Except for Lost. ;)

And Caprica looks like it'll be "real" sci fi, too. :bolian:

Well, science fiction that's in space and isn't afraid to be set in an alternate future.
Which is not all there is to sci fi, by a long shot, or even particularly important. After all, Defying Gravity is in space, but Lost is much more focused on being science fiction.

If you think Lost is a "gimmick," you obviously haven't been paying attention. What "gimmick" are you referring to?

I'll give it a look because it's Stargate.

Unfortunately, Cooper and Wright haven't brought in much new blood to revitalize the series. I love Peter Deluise and Martin Wood, but I'd love to see it shot differently.

Martin Wood and Peter Deluise have been gone for a while now, Deluise has come back to direct one ep. so far of Universe. And they are geting some new directors.

Veteran television director Felix Alcala is directing a key episode of Stargate Universe’s first season. SGU producer Joseph Mallozzi told fans the news on his blog.
Alcala directs “Divided,” the twelfth episode of Season One and the second half of the mid-season two-parter.
His previous directing credits include sci-fi genre shows like Battlestar Galactica (”Exodus” and the movie “Razor”), Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. He has also helmed episodes of Criminal Minds, ER, House, Burn Notice and many more.
The producers are branching out with several directors who are new to Stargate, as well as keeping the franchise’s mainstay directors like Andy Mikita, Will Waring and Peter DeLuise. Other directors announced to date include Ernest Dickerson (“Earth”) and Alex Chapple (“Life”).

The director of Photography for The Wire, Rohn Schmidt, did the pilot.

They are definitely trying to shoot for a new...shooting style.

I stand corrected.
