^ Joke...
Nah, the joke has been Billy Wagner this inning. Game over. Good pitching by Sabathia for the Yanks, but he's pretty good at imploding in the postseason.

Decent start for Dice-K and some excellent defense by V-Mart, though.

Base hit! Great job Damon! Light a fire under it, about time! :techman:

Bottom line is he showed the umpire up and you can't do that. Drawing a line in the dirt to show him where the ball was is showing the ump up.

My mom's cousin was a catcher, had a short time in the big leagues and he said you could say anything you wanted to the umpire as long as you didn't turn and look at him. Of course this was in the 70's.

Hmmm. I had no idea that umpires were so sensitive in general. I've seen the occasional newbie so drunk with power that he'd toss anybody he felt like tossing, but I didn't know what happened with Ichiro was an actual *rule*.

I guess Ichiro's command of English has gotten better, though, given what I distinctly saw him say to the ump on his way out.

Edit: Yankees win! Theeeeeeeeeeeeee..Yankees win! :D (for the record, I *hate* the way that quote really sounds) And the magic number is now 1! :techman:

Thought the Twins might gain a game, but the ChiSox blew a 5-1 lead and lost big to Detroit. Can't count on Chicago for anything.

Major League Baseball is also the one sport where umpires have big egos of their own and sometimes act like they're as much a part of the game as the players... or even above the game.

Truly pathetic efforts from Red Sox pitching this series. They might actually pitch their way out of a spot in the playoffs.

Today was a good day...both of my teams won! Yanks clinch the AL East, and Mets manage to shut out the Marlins. :techman:

I have the Yankees game on and the ESPN announcers are fucking awful and irritating.

It could be worse. You could be listening to John Sterling's broadcast. :p

When they release games on DVD they should offer a no-announcer option....just the stadium P.A. voice. I have little need for announcers anyway.

Oh don't panic man. Their Magic Number is 3, and they are playing Toronto and Cleveland next, at home. Even from the lineups put out there this weekend, the Red Sox didn't take this weekends series as a huge event. They will be fine.

Edit, there number is 2. TB fucking beat the Rangers today. Last thing I knew they were loosing 6-0!

WOOT!

An interesting couple of games today. Both Minnesota and Detroit are losing.

And now the fun starts. The next four games will almost seem like a playoff series. Was hoping the Twins could get within one before heading to Detroit, but Greinke was just too good (the Twins will have to face him next week as well).
