Jon Lester: 9 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 11 K, Win. :techman:

Yep, he's back.

Penny, on the other hand...the Braves can have him.

God how cool would it been to have him throw a perfect game?

Great to see the Co-Aces of him and Beckett have two dominating performances like that.

If Tommy Hanson pitches a no-hitter today I will give everyone $1.

And we don't need Penny. We have five phenomenal pitchers... just no bats.

Mets- Argh! :scream: How could they lose to the Nats? I had a great time at the game tonight.

I just saw part of today's game on television. The Mets definitely got revenge for last night.

Wow - I mean - wow. I wonder what the problem is with the Nats bullpen, if it is fixable and if so, how to to fix it. 'cause they need to do something. But, I leave it to the experts to analyze this type of thing and find solutions.

And another Dice-aster. I think it's time to get Smoltz or Buchholz into the rotation and see if they can do better than Matsuzaka (not difficult).

God can't wait till this Road trip heads to Arizona. At least there there is an actual ROOF and there doesn't need to be a rain freaking delay.

Really wanted to see Timmy pitch today. :(

After blowing a 5 run lead in the ninth, the D-Backs bullpen proceeds to throw 9 more innings of no-hit ball and Arizona beats the Padres in 18 innings.

The winning 3 run homer came off Padres 2B/SS Josh Wilson, because the Pads ran out of pitchers.

Everyone in the Cubs bullpen can eat a bag of flaming dicks.

Do me a favor and leave a few for Gutuirrez and especially for Qualls.

Blowing a five run lead in San Diego was bad enough, but did you really have to cap it off by giving up a 3 run homer to David Eckstein? Geez

And Reynolds, yeah it's nice that you hit the homerun man, but give us a break. You went 3-2 against a shortstop for chistsake. And you're actually proud of that?

Don't forget that this is the same shortstop who pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the D'Backs four days before we released him.

First of all, I'm sorry to JKTim for saying this (Somehow I don't think he will mind) but fuck the cubs bullpen. Good lord how many times can they fuck up the game when their starter has a great game. It's almost like Wells is the Berry Zito of the Cubs, at least this year. I'm talking more along the lines of pitching awesomely, and then getting no run support and the bullpen fucking it up for him. Why do I care? I have him on my fantasy team and the Cubs bullpen cost me 2 wins this week.

Lastly, Brian Wilson might be the most dramtic pitcher in baseball. He manages to get the job done, while playing with fans' cardiovascular systems. Hell, tonight I was hoping Affeldt would have gotten a save. Great start from Lincecum and another win for the Giants. Still looking forward to them not having to deal with a rain delay part of the trip.

Roy Halladay: best pitcher in baseball today. 'Nuf said. :D

Yeah, I was at the game yesterday. One hell of a performance. A complete game in which he allows seven hits and has six Ks, yet still does it in 100 pitches? Incredible. And the way he worked himself out of that jam in the seventh was damned impressive. So glad I got to catch one of the Doctor's starts!

Dan Haren has better stats.

Over the last decade, though?

Halladay:

2009, to date: 10-1, 2.52 ERA
2008: 20-11, 2.78
2007: 16-7, 3.71
2006: 16-5, 3.19
2005: 12-4, 2.41
2004: 8-8, 4.20
2003: 22-7, 3.25
2002: 19-7, 2.93
2001: 16-5, 3.16
1999: 18-8, 3.91

I'm skipping 2000, since that's the year he spent bouncing around trying to fix his delivery. Aside from that and 2004, in which he was injured before he could really get going, he's put up some incredible numbers. And those aren't even listing his complete games, for which he's far and away the leader over the past 10 years or so, which is an invaluable asset. That's why I'd call him the best pitcher in baseball.

He said "best pitcher in baseball today".

I like Roy Halladay, but he's not a better pitcher than Dan Haren this year (or, "today"). I agree that Roy Halladay has been better over a longer period of time.

However, if you really want to get down to it, I think Johan Santana has been even better than both of them over the last five years, and I don't particularly care for Santana.

Went to the A's game yesterday (Cub Scout day at the A's) sparse crowd, 17k or so. Looked like is was going to be a barn burning after the first inning, but then nothing for the next eight. Got home early and had to figure out what to do with the rest of the day.

Heading back the Giants vs Rangers on Father's Day, cool...

Maybe the Phils should just play on the road? Man this team is hot right now. I bet even if we take 3 out of 4 from LA ESPN will still have us behind the Dodgers, Yankees, and Red Sox in their power rankings.

Maybe Philly could send someone over to the Twins and show them how to win on the road. Seems like every time the Twins go on the road they forget how to hit (especially when they actually do manage to get someone in scoring position). They're doing good at home (21-12), but that 7-18 road record is killing them.

Still, for me, to be called the best pitcher in baseball, you have to have the track record to prove it. So far, Haren only has this season to his name as being truly spectacular. Guys like Halladay and Santana, though, have shown they have the ability to dominate season after season and game after game, regardless of whether their ERA is the best in baseball or not. That's what a pitcher needs to be before I consider them the best in the game.

This new pitcher the A's picked up looked really good yesterday. It almost seems like the Giants and A's are similar. The Giants pitching is awesome, but the hitting isn't all that great. Same thing with the A's, only the A's actually do have reputable hitters. It is nice to see those hitters finally starting to turn it around. I think it's almost about Giambi's 'stache. The best of him comes out whenever he brings it back.
