Major League Baseball 2009

Yeah, Cliff Lee was formidable last time, but I think the Yanks will be ready for him. A.J. really came through last time he pitched.

Brad Lidge has replaced Mitch Williams. We definitely could have won this if he had held on. He was close to, then he fell apart. Not much else I can say about this one. I'm hopeful for Lee and we have a shot with Pedro. I have no idea who we would send out on game 7 if we made it, though.

I have to give Blanton credit, he was 0-3 with a 8.38 ERA against the Yankees, and he did better than I expected. I thought this game was a sure win, but when it was 4-4, I was dumbfounded. How can the Yankees strike out 7 times against such a mediocre pitcher?? Ugh!

Of course on a positive note, they won the game. Before the WS started I was disgusted to hear local Phillies radio personalities suggest the Phillies lineup was deeper, but I think from batters 1-9 they really showed who's the deeper team.

Ah you do know the Phils were up 3-0 last night, and then lost.

This game isnt close to being over.

Yes, I do know that the Phils were up 3-0 last night. And how can you tell that this game is not even close to being over?

Cause it's the fourth inning...

In baseball it's never over till the 3rd out of the ninth is recorded, especially in a one run game. CC makes one bad pitch and then all of a sudden the Yanks are tied, or loosing this one...

True statement at any time, more so after the 2-out 9th inning rally last night. That steal of 2 bases by Damon on one pitch is one of the wackiest plays you'll ever see in a big game. Heads up and ballsy. But he's the goat if he gets tagged out and the Phils win in the bottom of the inning.

I was away for a 3 day weekend and was exhausted last night. Fell asleep in the 4th and woke up at 4-3 NY in the 8th. Pretty intense couple of innings.

And the friends we stayed with on Saturday aren't sports fans. I didn't see a single pitch. ARGH.

I try to make it a point to stay up to the end of series/title clinching games. Could be a few long ones this week.

Hey Lidge? Ah WTF was that?

Atleast Joba still sucks...the only solace I got from that game...

Joba has been great in the WS.

But he is not the same guy who came up a few years ago...

While he has been effective in the WS, his PS in general has been meh. I mean there is a reason that Girardi has been going to Mo for two inning saves.

I respect a lot of the Yankees, Mo, Jeter, Mussina when he was there, Pettitte, but I just don't like Joba at all.

I think Joba is overrated and his on field antics annoy me. I prefer him out of the pen than as a starter. I think some of his struggles comes from the team not really knowing what to do with him. He's a starter, then he's a reliever, then he's a starter again. Plus they did that thing later in the year where they kept playing with his innings total.

Another great game last night! I fell off my chair and laughing my ass off that nobody is protecting the third base, that allowed him to running to grab the third base, Phillies are so screwed now.:guffaw:

Once again, A-Rod was so close to giving the Yankees other home run, the score was almost going to be the same of Saturday's game, it's all good now. Granted, I want this game to finish in their home field, not Phillies' home turf!

Joba is outstanding for 35 pitches as a reliever, then he's cooked.

He shouldn't be a starter, he doesn't have the stamina. He tries to pace himself to last 6-7 innings so tries to space out those 35 pitches. But if he comes in as 1-2 inning reliever, he comes in hot.

He'll be the next Mo, not a starter.

I think you are right.

WTF Charlie? You're up by only three in the ninth against the Yankees and you pitch Madsen instead of Lidge? :wtf:

ETA: 1st hitter hits a ball off the top of the wall. Shit!

I expected Madsen instead of Lidge, so that's no biggie. Close ending, but our offense gave us plenty of cushion (although I swear that if his decision to give Shane a break backfired, I was driving to Philly to burn the city down).

We seem to be giving all our offense to Cliff Lee, which is a shame because the other guys kinda need it a bit more. At least this is what is supposed to happen when a pitcher pitches with three days rest. I guess Petite will have four days, which is a bit less, but not too bad for them. If Phillies bats are awake, we can win, if they're cold, we're done. Pedro can be Pedro, but the series won't be about him.

Notice anything peculiar about this Macy's ad in Monday's Philadelphia Enquirer?

I didn't see this game, so I'm only just finding out about it, but did anyone see Marco Scutaro walking against the Phillies the other night, and then stealing second after trotting down to first? He rather awesomely made the Phillies look like a Little League squad.

Hopefully this link works.

New to this thread, I had a good long read from the beginning and had to have a chuckle at this one from June 19. Being a Jays fan myself (my wife is a Yankees fan and my daughter a Bosox fan which makes for some great suppertimes let me tell you), the irony of this post is great. Look where the Phillies are today...right where they should be. And the Jays...well, there's always hope. Here's hoping the Yankees take it, although I am glad Philly took last nights game. Could it have something to do with Burnett having been on the mound? Probably. God help me when Doc leaves us.
