Lt.Kyle

Earth was assimilated in the past, whatever band aid they put on the timeline in 2063 was hardly comprehensive.

Enterprise was supposed to blow up in mid season one, and the Suliban stopped that.

Agreed completely, and why I have felt that the new shows are all in an altered timeline, personally

The bigger question is why does it matter?

If they are in an altered timeline do we care less? Do I wish these altered people would die sooner so the originals can come back? Am I less invested in the stories because this timeline is so altered that I cannot invest in it?

Slightly rhetorical, and goofy questions, but that's how it feels like. If we must define the timeline so strictly I still am left with the same basic story questions: Do I care? Am I invested in the characters and the outcome? If so, then the story functions, either in one timeline or another.

Funny obversation ^^
As an Asian, I'm fine with the Asian transporter character in Cage being the same Kyle character in Strange New Worlds. I'm still not keen on the idea of them being TOS Kyle though. We'll see if there's ever any confirmation either way.

Probably not the same character. This Kyle will suffer a horrible transporter accident where he is split in two. Only one will survive.

The new Kyle looks 15 to me, so him being on Enterprise five years earlier seems weird, but I can live with it.

It still works. Keep in mind Asians look young and as an Asian male myself I know the effects of that (I've had people tell me I look like a kid well into my 30s).

Keep in mind Babs Olusanmokun as M'Benga is supposed to be old enough to be a father and the actor is currently 37, but the character 9 years from Strange New Worlds in TOS is played by 28 year old Booker Bradshaw.

Yes. No. Yes.

I'm being facetious. He just looks young. Not really like a teenager.

Kyle: Number One, M'Benga, if you don't allow me access to the Orion subspace channel, I'm going to tell everyone about your dark secrets!

Number One: You mean like we're going to tell everyone about your dark secret of identity theft, Mr. "Kyle"?

Based on the fact he has yet to wear a regular red duty shirt maybe he does have a Cadet status?
