Little things in Trek that just bug you...

The fact that aliens always look vaguely human. Why can’t a being with an alien biology be indistinguishable from something concocted by Neelix ?

Just thought of one more... What's the deal with the various Enterprises always decorating the ship with pictures of outer space? They're in outer space. If they wanted to see it, they could just look out a window. You'd think the crew would want to see images of Earth or planetside landscapes, things that they don't get to see very often.

It's just artwork.....IN SPAAAAACCCCEEEEE!!!!!

When it takes only hours to reach the center of the galaxy, IE a trip of about half the distance that Voyager had to cover to rejoin the Alpha Quadrant.

Video surveillance/replay footage that is filmed like a TV show (from the side). My brother and I discussed it this morning. It's unrealistic-"The Menagerie"'s Pike film had the in-universe excuse of being created by mentally powerful Talosians, but in reality filmed as its own TV episode originally.

"Court Martial", interestingly, which also made use of video footage, at least had a reason for being zoomed in - Shaw asked for it to be.

They never use the same trick twice, even in situations where it would be appropriate. For example, when Carey was shot they could have revived him using the same technique that Seven used for Neelix. Why didn't they?

Was watching the episode of Enterprise where the Vulcans were showing Archer and co footage transmitted from a Vulcan ship that had been in the expanse and encountered an anomaly. They were all acting crazy and attacking each other. Apparently Vulcan security camera systems include a cinematography program. The footage had dramatic pans and zooms.

Or maybe it was a montage by a Vulcan with artistic aspirations...

At least Star Trek never did the dumb "documentary inside a fictional show" plot that was done on Babylon 5 and nuBSG.

I suppose writing a letter episodes like "Data's Day" and "Dear Doctor" are similar? (detailing "behind the scenes" in-universe info)
Indeed, and I might add that "Dear doctor" really sounds like a ripping off of "Data's Day", at least the part about the letter. It's a copy of the concept without adding anything to it.

Is there an official term for the phenomenon where you never noticed something before until someone pointed it out to you or you realized it all by yourself and suddenly, you can't stop noticing it? (Like a character's frequent use of "um", or somebody's annoying loud breathing sound, or continuously phrasing something the same way over and over, or a nervous habit gesture they keep doing?)
This happened to me with the Riker Maneuver. I never noticed it before and now I can't NOT notice it.

This is one of the reasons I loved Species 8472.

I'd argue Species 8472 still looked vaguely human. It had an identifiable head with eyes and what seemed to be a mouth. A torso with jointed arms, hands, and fingers. Aside from the third leg in the rear, it was pretty much humanoid. It was just a bit tweaked because CGI allowed it to be something other than someone in a rubber suit.

Real alien aliens would be something like those in Orion's Arm.

:wtf: I never watched much of the revived Battlestar Galactica, but "And Now For A Word" and "The Illusion of Truth" are two of the best-ever episodes of Babylon 5.
