Little things in Trek that just bug you...

Seven looks ridiculous walking around, let alone running. (no offense, Seven)

There's that episode where she is all alone on the ship for a few months, and begins hallucinating that she's being stalked.. And I always thought she looked rather silly walking around with that assault rifle.

The 80's and 90's had a fetish for high heels. Has that ended yet? I sure hope so.

High Heels make the ass look nicer.

They're like a push-up bra for the ass.

She should wear robot boots instead, or any kind of boots. I'd even prefer a barefoot seven with pale veiny feet, with electrical wires sticking out; over the high heels.

That'd be hot!

Is the inner door grey? I’ll check out the corbomite manoeuvre, cheers

Made the time to watch it, and there it is, like a reptile’s inner eye lid, blink and you’ll miss it. Tranya.

But now I’m puzzled, why was Kirk disgruntled by his Yeoman’s sex?

1) All alone aboard that ship. I'd be carrying one too.

2) NEVER !

Is there an official term for the phenomenon where you never noticed something before until someone pointed it out to you or you realized it all by yourself and suddenly, you can't stop noticing it? (Like a character's frequent use of "um", or somebody's annoying loud breathing sound, or continuously phrasing something the same way over and over, or a nervous habit gesture they keep doing?)

I will attempt at coining one:

"Hillary's mole"

Thumbs up if anyone gets the reference.

Actually I believe that episodes varied in whether the turbolifts showed one or two sets of doors. There is a tread about it in fact.

If you are thinking that everyone has to go through a competition like in "Coming of Age" I think you are probably wrong. I think that Wesley was competing to enter in a special program for geniuses that was open to kids younger than regular Academy applicants, not trying to enter the Academy in the normal manner.

Theoretically, in a Federation of trillions, such a selective process can still lead to the Starfleet the size we see on the shows.

Granted, I also think there are multiple avenues into Starfleet, and it's interesting to see that being a super-genius isn't enough to get into the Academy. They must have some type of all-around diversity program, intellectually, philosophically, speciality, and so on.

And if it's just a Best out of 4 competition, then Wesley hit bad luck by competing against a Benzite and Vulcan. Riker may have had a couple Boomers and a Tellarite to compete against. Nog and Worf and Torres may have benefitted in much the same way as Mordock. Paris may have had his Captain father push for acceptance.

Nog and Worf and Torres
I wonder if their being not one of the standard Starfleet cadet species resulted in them receiving special consideration or points?

If a Human had the same academic and the same test results the Human wouldn't have been accepted.

Vulcans are a lot more efficient than humans and they are far more dedicated to their tasks and they live a great deal longer. Star fleet higher ups should all be Vulcans! Humans occupying only the lower ranks.

Humans rule the Federation. Most Vulcans are happy to rest peacefully in the shade created by the Pax Humana.

The notion that every ship in Starfleet is 90% officers. All officers go to Starfleet Academy, and every ship, no matter how small, is commanded by someone with the rank of Captain. Starfleet has hundreds of ships, and yet to get into Starfleet Academy you have to participate in one of several annual 4-person competitions with only one winner. None of it makes any sense!
I know it's a space station and not a starship, but for the first few seasons of DS9, the station was commanded by Commander Sisko, and not Captain Sisko. It's easy to extrapolate that there are other commands led by ranks lower than captain.

He commanded DS9 AND the Defiant at the same time before he was promoted Captain. And (Lt. Cmdr) Jadzia Dax was placed in command of the Defiant when they made Sisko take a desk job. And they discussed and featured a lot more NCOs on DS9. Basically, Roddenberry (a.k.a. The Great Shitbird of the Galaxy) died, and the DS9 writers used it as a chance to fix all of his shite ideas.

It sometimes bugs me that in Beyond they don't seem to get the meaning of "admiral". Kirk would become a vice admiral just by accepting a job!!! What the... !!!

Paris has the power to offer him a position at Yorktown. But she doesn't have the power to promote him. The promotion, however, is almost guaranteed.

Either a) somebody will promote him to give him the rank more befitting his job, b) notice him because he's in one place long enough for a higher-up to remember his name, see him regularly, and give him what's long overdue, or c) he will have the opportunity to do things that will afford him the rank in due time - it's as good as making him a vice admiral now, because that's what usually happens to people with the opportunities his posting affords.

I can imagine that he might still go on the occasional mission, but be based on Yorktown and spend a good deal more time there than not. So he has a port of call to return to after spending two weeks at a conference or some such event.

The Kelvin movies treat ranks as roles, handing out whatever anyone needs at any time. But since Starfleet isn't a military (;)), why not?
