There was no cost to the local stations. Paramount and local stations split the commercial time. Paramount selling the national ads and the stations selling the local ads. As far as I know there were no fees paid by the local stations. If your station preempted any DS9 episodes there must have been a different reason. Maybe to show local sports teams.
Maybe it was they earned more off of other programming. Though it wasn’t sports.
Doomcock is more a Trek fan than johnny-come-lately types who are more interested in debating a "sexist" line from Elaan of Troyius for 10 pages than enjoying a good story.
I think most who hate current Trek are just watching The Orville these days.
Translation: Those who debate sexism in past episodes are not true fans. True fans are exemplified by youtube liars that fleece their audience by outright untruths an capitalizing on their racist and misogynist leanings.
How long is an appropriate amount of pages to debate sexism before one has their true fan status revoked?

Perhaps you can explain just how many pages a thread on the sexism in Elaan of Troyius should run since you were knee deep in the previous thread about it several years ago. The first thing Doomcock needs to change is his name. First impressions count and someone who willfully uses a name like that strikes me as classless.
I agree with you that people should just enjoy the episode. "Elaan of Troyious" was made when it was and that's just the way things were back then. People have to take into context when an episode was made before evaluating it.
But it also swings the other way. Some people would enjoy DSC a lot more if they just enjoyed it rather than be so focused on picking it apart. Such people picking apart DSC because of their hang-ups are doing the same thing as those picking apart "Elaan of Troyious" based on things that didn't stand out negatively at the time.
Ignoring the political and cultural orientation of the first fifty years of Star Trek doesn't make Dumbcock insightful, genuine, or trustworthy.
It's a rather interesting conundrum isn't it? On the one hand, there is the opinion that Star Trek should be enjoyed as it was, like TOS, TNG, and DS9 and VOY. We shouldn't be offended by how ladies were portrayed. It was a different time! Don't be so nitpicky.
On the other hand is Kelvin and DSC, where nitpicking is required.
