Honestly, this stuff sounds like how the TOS cast was talking about TNG 30 years agoHe's just bitter Pensioner Picard got a show and Captain Worf didn't.
No, they're not going to a complete 180 on their design decisions.
That would be too jarring for new fans.
They just need hair to look like normal Klingons.
Well the lead makeup guy did hint that there might be hair in Season 2.
Mind you I said hint, not outright confirm.

For me the Klingons are far too different. As was mention in an earlier post Humans and Klingons do have kids together and personally I think that sex with a Disc Klingon it would be like shagging a giant pineapple! I just hope that the rest of the Klingon empire are more familiar looking next season.
Maybe as a plot line they could be a seperate strain entirely. Many nations of empire builders eventually absorb the conquered nations into their own gene pool just as the conquered absorb the culture of their overlords. There is room for thinking that there is no pure Klingon race, that there are hybrid of many of the races they have taken into their empire.

I think this alone is not sufficient to critizise the look. Actual people can have the weirdest attractions, to inanimate objects, stuff like "Furies" or people falling in love with Anime figures. Klingons are supposed to be actual living beings - it's not unbelievable for someone to fall in love with one, even if they're "ugly" by conventional standards.
What IS a problem is the make-up itself. It's just waaay to thick. They don't come across as intelligent beings. As soon as they talk, they have the same acting range as Muppets.
The make-up would be quite successfull as for example Halloween monsters, or Orcs or something. Any acting job where they aren't supposed to really talk or heavily emote. Because both of that is utterly impossible in this make-up, but badly needed for an actual "character". Which is why almost all klingon characters completely fell flat.
It’s why for all his polarising reputation, Neelix is actually quite a successful make up design. Because the look was based on aiming for character that Ethan Phillips could then play into or play against, and had enough freedom for his face to do it. Even Odo, the makeup came out of the character, and then Rene worked with it to inform his performance...harder to emote with, it that suited the character, and the performance lends the emotion without as much ‘face’ involved. It’s why Odo’s grunts work so well, or those rare times he smiles, or when his ‘hair’ is flopping...if Odo has floppy hair, it’s because he’s expressing something with it after all.
You either need amazing actors working hard, or good character in the makeup...ideally both. That’s why Doug Jones does so well. He’s been doing mask acting for years. But every actor isn’t cut out for that, and you need to design the makeup for the actor and the character, not just the look.

While I like the make up just fine, if it helps the actors than I hope there is some minor tweaks.

I wonder if the residuals that Sirtis receives from all-access (for the TNG syndication) is enough to cover the subscription cost for all-access?
